It’s been a busy day with not one but two birthday parties to take my daughter to as well as general family chores, whilst I’m kicking back with a glass of wine, I’d much rather be relaxing in Trader Sams sipping on a Uh-Oa! after a long day in the parks! Trader SAM’s can be found at the Polynesian resort and is a fantastic bar. I love the theming and all the extra little effects that go off depending on what drinks people order. AND you get to keep the special souvenir glass...es for some of them meaning you can try and recreate your favourite tipple once you’re back home! Apologies for the lack of posts this week, life has unfortunately got in the way and we’ve been a bit busy! And so, at the end of a hectic week, on #feelgoodfriday my mind drifts to one of my favourite pastimes at Disney, a leisurely ride on the PeopleMover (or the WEDway as I’ll always refer to it!!). I have always loved this attraction, it’s a lovely little ride, a chance for a sit down and enjoy the cool breeze as you zoom around Tomorrowland. If you’re really lucky you ma...y just catch a glimpse of inside Space Mountain whilst the lights are on!! It’s an absolute must do for us every visit to Magic Kingdom and a trip wouldn’t be complete without it. One of my favourite non park things to do at Disney is mini golf! Disney has 2 fabulous mini golf courses on site (well 4 courses technically as each site has 2 18 hole courses each) and they are both great fun!! WinterSummerland can be found at Blizzard Beach water park and is a perfect end to a day on the water slides. Who doesn’t want to see what Santa gets up to in the Summer??! Fantasia Gardens is a whimsical take on the Fantasia movie and can be found on Epcot Resort Bo...ulevard opposite the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. The Disney Ultimate tickets that most UK visitors will purchase include 1 round of mini golf per person we day before 4pm so it’s basically free!! Happy Toy Story Land opening day!!! I am loving all the Instagram and You Tube photos and videos and really wish I was there (although definitely don’t wish I was in the 270 minute queue for Slinky Dog Dash 😳)!! I think one of my favourite pieces of theming I’ve seen so far has to be the Fisher Price Camper Van merch cart! This was one of my absolute favourite toys as a child, I have so many memories of playing with it for hours and my parents still have it at their house and... my children now love playing with it too!! The theming of the whole land looks absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to see it in the flesh but for now I shall live vicariously through as many You Tube videos and Instagram stories as I can find. Jambo from Animal Kingdom Lodge!!! I absolutely love this resort, it’s my favourite lobby out of all the hotels on property. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen it you can’t help but gasp when you walk through the front doors and it always takes me a while to catch my breath. It’s very similar to Wilderness Lodge in that it has the height and grandeur but then it has all these beautiful African artefacts dotted around and then of course the huge floor to ceiling wind...ows at the back overlooking the Savannah. There’s so many little outlooks dotted around the hotel where you can sit in beautiful carved wooden rocking chairs looking out at the animals so even if your budget doesn’t stretch to a savannah view room, there’s still plenty of opportunities to check out what animals are roaming around. At the main outlook there’s always a knowledgeable staff member around to answer any questions and tell you more about the beautiful animals. One of the other fantastic things about this resort is the amount of activities they have going on for children. There’s so much to do you could spend your whole vacation at the hotel and not even realise you hadn’t been to the parks!! This is a great option if you’re visiting at busier times of the year and need to take frequent breaks from the crowded parks. So my littlest baby boy’s (5 months) nursery is Peter Pan themed and is quite possibly my favourite room in the house! The theme made sense as he’s my last baby so I definitely have a sense of never wanting him to grow up! One of the (many!!) things I love about Disney is that it’s not all about the kids!! My husband and I went to Disneyworld on holiday as a couple many times before we had children and people would always ask why we’d go to Disney without children as if it was the strangest thing in the world!! But Disney is a fantastic holiday destination whatever your age and the demographics of your party. Whilst I absolutely love what our holidays have become since we had children and the m...agic of seeing it all through their eyes, parts of me so still hanker for the ‘adult’ Disney I used to enjoy and one of the main things I miss is Jellyrolls!! Jellyrolls is a late night duelling piano bar located at the Boardwalk resort. The musicians here are outstandingly talented and amazing to watch. You can request anything you like and these guys will just play these tunes off the top of their heads and they interact so well with each other, it’s such an entertaining way to spend an evening. My husband and I love it so much that we even had a duelling piano band at our wedding - there aren’t many of them around especially in the UK and at one point we were even talking about trying to see if we could fly some of the Jellyrolls guys to England to play, that’s how much we love this place and these talented musicians!! Following on from my post about the Grand Floridian, I touched on the fantastic restaurants they have at the resort, my favourite of which has to be Narcoossee’s. This restaurant has been a long time favourite of mine, its relaxed decor and location out on the waterfront reminds me of travels round New England and the view of the castle across the Seven Seas Lagoon is a bonus. I’m very much a creature of habit and pretty much order the same thing every visit (they do change t...he menu regularly but fortunately my favourites are the signature dishes so to date have remained available)! To start its Maine Lobster Bisque (so light and creamy), for main it’s the Butter Poached Twin Maine Lobster Tails (so delicate and soft and the corn soufflé it comes with is deliciously different) and then the finale has to be the Almond Crusted Cheesecake which is quite possibly my favourite dessert I’ve ever eaten! Every visit I feel nervous that I’m going to see the menu and they’ll have taken the cheesecake off or messed about with it but so far it’s stayed safe the last decade or so!! I love the cheesecake so much I spent months developing my own recipe to get as close as I could to the real thing!! Happy 55th birthday Enchanted Tiki Room (Disneyland version!) - an oldie but a goodie!! My children did this for the first time this trip (at Disneyworld though!) and loved it - my little girl (4) was dancing in the aisles much to the cast member running the ride’s amusement!! So I’ve talked before about the resorts we stayed at during our most recent trip so I thought I’d cover some of the other fantastic resorts Disney has to offer that we’ve had the privilege to stay in on previous trips. I felt the only place to start was Disneyworld’s flagship resort, the beautiful, elegant and iconic Grand Floridian. I remember after it opened in 1988 (on the 28 June incidentally so a big birthday coming up!) I would go past it on the monorail as a little gir...l and dream about staying there. We were a family of 6 so there were no rooms on property in those days that could accommodate us so we always stayed offsite in villas. It was only as I got older and we started travelling in smaller parties that we were able to start trying out the Disney hotels from the mid 90s onwards. I first stayed at the Grand Floridian in 2007 and as it was a real dream come true, we pushed the boat out and went for a Magic Kingdom view room. The view was magical and our whole experience of the hotel and our stay there was perfect. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to stay at the resort several more times especially since they added the DVC building. The DVC rooms are absolutely stunning - such charming, elegant and understated decor and there’s TVs in the bathroom mirrors people - who knew that this was something you needed?!!! I love the lobby and the pianist playing Disney songs that sound just so good on the piano, I love the band that plays on the upper balcony, I love the birdcage elevator, I love all the restaurants, I love the gingerbread house they have at Christmas and I love the stunningly intricate Easter eggs they have on display at Easter. I could go on!! Disney just does ‘smells’ so well!! They know exactly how to entice you in with these really strong, evocative fragrances that stay with you long after the holiday is over!! One of my favourites is the smell in the Beach Club lobby, every time I smell it I’m instantly transported back to my happy place. For years I tried to work out how I could recreate that smell in my home and then one day I came across @mapleandwhiskycandleco who incidentally are based just down the road f...rom me! I ordered some of their candles, Reed diffusers and room sprays and my house was instantly transformed into some of my favourite Disney locations - Beach Club, Soarin’, Twelve Days of Christmas shop and many others!
