Manor Hill Independent Greek School has a long history. Its heritage goes back to September 1980 stemmed by the desire of the Greek Community in the London Borough of Barnet to offer its children the opportunity to learn their mother tongue and preserve their Greek national traditions and inheritance, independently of other influences.

The independence of the School is enshrined in its constitution, which has as its main objective, the active support of the parents and the respective main and mother’s committees. Both committees work arduously & voluntarily in the background to promote and maintain the school’s profile and raise the necessary funds for its upkeep by way of its varied social events such as the Annual Greek Dinner and Dance Ball; The Barbecue Sports Day; The Mothers Day Bazaar; The Coffee Mornings and of course the ever popular and mouth-watering Souvlakia Days run by its home grown consortium Kebab Plc.

The School, however, never loses sight of its aim which is to ensure that the School’s high standard of education is maintained and to this end, the Headmaster in conjunction with the Governing Committee recruits suitably qualified teachers of high calibre.

Manor Hill Greek School has adopted the official Analytical Timetable of the Ministry of Education of Cyprus especially adapted for Greek Community Schools. Its links with Greece and Cyprus are strong with the school often featuring in Greek Media events.

The School currently has over 400 students, 42 Teachers & 7 teachers assistants. 42 classes are held twice a week, on Wednesday from 6: 00 p. m. to 8. 00 p. m. and on Saturday from 09: 50 a. m. to 1: 00 p. m.

Emphasis is given to the teaching of the Greek language and the pupils are actively encouraged to speak Greek. The majority of our students not only pass GCSE and A’ Level examinations in Modern Greek but do so with consistently high passes.

Apart from the Greek language, the School curriculum includes religious studies, history, geography of Greece and Cyprus, music and dance – thus preserving our Greek origins and culture.

The School also provides classes in Modern Greek for adults.

Ίδρυση - Στόχοι

Το Ανεξάρτητο Ελληνικό Σχολείο Manor Hill ιδρύθηκε το 1980 από μία ομάδα γονιών της περιοχής Μπάρνετ, οι οποοίοι ήθελαν να λειτουργήσουν ελληνικό σχολείο για να μπορούν τα παιδιά τους να διδάσκονται σωστά την ελληνική γλώσσα, να μαθαίνουν την ιστορία, τη θρησκεία, να γνωρίζουν τις αξίες και τα διδάγματα του ελληνικού πολιτισμού και να καλλιεργούν τις πολιτιστικές παραδώσεις και τα έθιμα της Πατρίδας μας.

Στην αρχή τα προβλήματα ήταν πολλά. Προπαντός του χρόνου όμως, το Manor Hill, με σκληρή δουλειά και πολλές θυσίες, αυξήθηκε ποσοτικά, βελτιώθηκε ποιοτικά και σήμερα είναι η μεγαλύτερη εκπαιδευτηκή μονάδα της Παροικίας μας.

Τάξεις Σχολείου

Φέτος στο σχολείο μας λειτουργούν 40 τάξεις με 400 μαθητές και διδάσκουν 42 δάσκαλοι και 7 βοηθοί δασκάλου. Ακόμη, στο σχολείο υπάρχει Παιδικός Σταθμός, καθώς επίσης και τάξεις ενηλίκων εκμάθησης ελληνικών.

Αναλυτικό Πρόγραμμα

Το σχολείο μας ακολουθεί πιστά το αναλυτικό πρόραμμα του Υπουργείου Παιδείας, όπως εχει προσαρμοστεί για τα Παροικιακό μας σχολεία. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται στη γλωσσική κατάρτιση των παιδιών. Εκτός από τα μαθήματα γλώσσας διδάσκεται πατριδογνωσία, μουσική, χορός, καθώς επίσης και στοιχεία από την ιστορία και θρησκεία μας.

Ώρες λειτουργείας - Στέγαση

Το Manor Hill λειτουργεί κάθε Τετάρτη από της 6-8 μ. μ. και κάθε Σάββατο απά τις 9. 50 π. μ. - 1 μ. μ. Στεγάζεται στο κτίριο του αγγλικού σχολείου Totteridge Academy, που βρίσκεται στη διεύθυνση BarnetLane, London, N20. Οι πιο κοντινοί σταθμοί τρένου είναι το Totteridge & Whetstone και το High Barnet.
