During Ramadan you may have seen our youth selling cakes, snacks and refreshments outside the Masjid, raising funds for the Masjid Expansion Project. Alhamdulillah, we are pleased to announce that they managed to raise £1000 towards the project. Two of the youngsters, Junaid and Hamza, presented a delighted Masjid Bilal President Malik Mohammad Afzal and committee member Farooq Alam with the funds the day before Eid. May Allah SWT reward our youth for their intentions and efforts.

We’re delighted to announce the winner of our Slim Fast Ramadan Challenge 2018: Brother Junaid Jay Mckellop. He came top from 24 Brothers who took part having lost 7% of his total body weight over Ramadan. As a gift, Brother Junaid was presented with a literature set comprised of Kitab at-Tawheed, Paradise & Hell, The Ideal Muslim, The Ideal Muslimah, Fiqh us-Sunnah, Tafseer Ibn Katheer and The Prophet’s Methods of Correcting People’s Mistakes. May Allah SWT bless Brother Jun...aid with continued good health and a long life, ameen.
Just before Ramadan we launched our Slim Fast Ramadan Challenge. Brothers who registered had their weight taken before Ramadan, during, and then at the end of Ramadan, with the one with the biggest weight loss percentage being declared the winner. With many people from our community gaining rather than losing weight over Ramadan due to excessive fried food consumption, the idea behind the challenge was to provide those that took part with some motivation to forgo the unhealthy food choices and help them take care of their health and body weight, in turn helping them focus on their ibada rather than what was coming for iftar or suhoor. Alhamdulillah, there was lots of positive feedback from those who took part.
Al-Hasan reported: Umar Ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, saw a man with a large belly and he said, “What is this?” The man replied, “It is a blessing from Allah". Umar said, “No, rather it is a punishment.” Source: Hadith Muhammad Ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Ansari 42

Photos of some of the Brothers who sat in itikaaf at the Masjid for the last 10 days and nights of Ramadan. The Masjid has 35-50 Brothers in itikaaf every Ramadan, providing iftar and suhoor for them throughout their stay. Away from their families, the Brothers engaged in ibada at the Masjid throughout the last 10 days and nights, many of them coming in as strangers to one another and leaving having strengthened the bonds of brotherhood between them. May Allah SWT reward them for their efforts.

Photos from yesterday's visit by the officers from the East Ham Safe Neighbourhood Team of the Metropolitan Police Service Newham. The officers were invited during Ramadan for iftar but had to cancel as they were on duty and had been called out, so came along yesterday to introduce themselves. Our committee members welcomed the officers and spoke about the work the Masjid does in the community and also highlighted concerns about the safety of Masjid attendees particular that of children and their mothers around madrasa periods. The officers reassured our members that they are happy to step up police presence whenever required and look forward to working with the Masjid on community engagement initiatives in the future. Photos from yesterday's Eid prayers and celebrations at Masjid Bilal. The Masjid held four jammats open to both Brothers and Sisters. They were led by Qari Niaz Muhammed, Moulana Jahanzeb, Ustadh Akhter Raouf and Ustadh Masood Khan respectively. Brothers and Sisters turned out in their numbers for this joyous occasion and it was great to see so many happy faces and the Brother and Sisterhood on display, alhamdulillah.
Eid Mubarak from everyone at Masjid Bilal. Taqabbal Allaahu minna wa minkum (May Allaah accept (this worship) from us and from you).

Photos from the 27th night of Ramadan. The Quran was completed in Taraweeh and the congregation were asked to remain behind for a short programme. Each person was given a box of sweets after which this year's new Huffaz were introduced to the congregation by our resident Imams, Qari Niaz Muhammed and Moulana Jahanzeb, and presented with gifts for their achievements. We concluded the programme with a few words from Masjid Bilal President Malik Mohammad Afzal.

Photos from our cake sales, fundraising for the Masjid Bilal expansion project. Purchase a cake and support our youth who are outside the Masjid every night for the remainder of Ramadan with their great initiative of raising funds for the Masjid. It may expand your waist line, but at least it will go someway in helping the Masjid expand too!

Photos from Masjid Bilal’s daily Iftar. Preparations begin just after Asr Salah with food arriving from local restaurants and members of the community. Our volunteers along with the committee members begin making up individual servings for around 100 guests, with help from our local children who are always excited to be involved.
We were delighted to joined by Labour London Assembly member and long time East Ham Central Councillor, Unmesh Desai, on this occasion.
Our thanks t...o all those who donate their delicious food and give up their time throughout the month to help serve iftar to our local community.
