During the reign of the Ottomans, the month of Rabi' al-Awwal was an extremely joyous occasion in Madinah, Makkah, Shaam, and Egypt etc. Osman l, the son of Ertuğrul is recorded to have commemorated the mawlid. Sweets would be distributed in the Haramayn, the poor would be gifted wealth and clothes, special foods would be cooked, the streets would be filled with lanterns, decorations, qasaid and poems. Shah Waliullah Muhadith Dehlavi said that he partook in the mawlid gatheri...ngs in Makkah and saw angels descending from the heavens.
Gatherings of mawlid, salawat, zikr, and praise would take place every day in the Prophet's ﷺ mosque, and the Haram of Makkah. On the 12th, shops would be closed and it would be like a day of Eid. The people in Makkah would have processions of salawat. In Madinah, they'd go to the Rawda and recite poetry magnifying Rasūlullāh ﷺ. Partaking in the mawlid has been celebrated with joy by the umma century after century. May Allāh bring back those days. I hope you have a blessed month.
