Alcohol and training?!
A recent study at Oregon state university concluded that red wine could be useful as a health aid.
There has been conflicting reports with multiple evidence presented both for and against including alcohol in a dietary regime.
... The for and against has been a pendulum over the decades. Certainly for the first half of the 20th century medical advice was towards moderate alcohol in the diet, indeed doctors would prescribe daily ‘tot’ of whisky to patients for number of conditions including high blood pressure and heart problems.
More recently medical opinion has moved in the opposite direction to omit alcohol from the diet completely.
Who is right? Well there is a great book recently produced ‘The Good News about Booze’. The author rightly compiles substantial evidence from all sides and concludes that a moderate amount of alcohol daily – especially red wine is pretty much essential for good health.
Our take?
Many people think alcohol contributes to fat gains and poor health. However in a great many cases, individuals who drink regularly, may also smoke or/and eat takeaways or just simply a poor diet – it is this that seems to contribute to weight gains and poor health, not the alcohol.
In tests of course many individuals who do not drink, may neither smoke nor eat junk food so in a lot of these studies the non-drinkers are shown to be healthier, but in careful analysis of data this is not the case. Especially when wine is included in the diet of individuals who exercise regularly, do not smoke and follow a healthy diet.
So we would heartily recommend a glass of red daily within a healthy diet – so sip up and enjoy!

Sometimes people deserve a big pat on the back.
This is Philippa Huckle. A very busy lady running a renowned international business in wealth management.
After trying different gyms a couple of years ago to start a serious course of strength and conditioning training she has settled on maximum fitness as the best of all.
... Whilst commuting to the Far East on a regular basis she manages to juggle international affairs (which start at 6am most days) with pretty intense training with Clive 4 times weekly.
The sessions are short and focused; she says it gives her more energy to deal with the hectic day to day affairs than ever besides being in the best shape of her life! A perfect student intent on doing things the right way!
She can now chin and dip easily with her own bodyweight as well as bench pressing 50 kilos and impressive reps of 35 kilos clean and press! As you can see.
Keep it up philippa.

He is very happy to report not only is he able to move around better than many years ago but so much fitter and stronger than ever.. He has also lost over a stone, coming in for 1-1 sessions 2 x weekly and therapy once weekly.
Keep it up Alan.

So much media coverage of new diets to follow makes for a lot of confusion for individuals who have made getting into shape one of their new year resolution... with the unfortunate yo-yo effect. So many institutions try to get you to get on their 'diet bandwagon'. Newspapers, magazines and other media peddle 'a new you' with articles often produced by journalists without either any substantial clinical history or professional experience.... but they know how to write a good s...tory! Sometimes these diets can actually make you ill, and those that don't get so complicated that following them for any worthwhile time becomes a degree in itself.
At maximum Fitness we do it the right way ( as we always have) Careful analysis of individuals way of living and working and current eating/ drinking habits, likes and dislikes. As well as current, as well as proposed activity and long term goals. Sometimes its a simple matter of taking a little out here and there and putting in where it is needed. Other times it really is a case of complete change, and that's where both client and instructor feel that a new plan can fit into their lifestyle.
REMEMBER THE ONLY DIET THAT REALLY WORKS IS THE ONE YOU STICK TO AND WANT TO. AND THOSE DIETS NOT ONLY GET YOU IN BETTER SHAPE BUT ALSO HELP YOU TO FEEL BETTER AND GIVE MUCH MORE ENERGY DURING THE DAY. OUR ADVICE GIVES THE RESULTS AND THEREFORE THE MOTIVATION TO.
Head to our Website to find out more great information about Nutrition and how it can help you. http://www.maxfit.co.uk/training-advice/n utritional-advice/

We believe moderation is the key and a small amount of alcohol, be it beer or a glass of wed wine is beneficial for health. Indeed it's been well documented that a small amount of alcohol regularly is actually better for the health than non at all. Just don't confuse the issue with supplementing this with empty and useless calories and junk food - This is the real killer. Use your appetite wisely, like you use your training time, and results will flow just as nicely as the A...mber Nectar.
P.S If you are after a good read, get a copy of "The Good News about Booze" - very informative, and up to date with reports and analysis.
