We are introducing Benoit Giraud (Ben) as a new part time lead guide. Ben is a French Native who also speaks English and Italian and has worked extensively in tourism and gained a Tour Guide Diploma. Most recently Ben has worked as a motorcycle tour guide in the USA and Canada but is eager to return home and so he has critically analysed one of our past Alpine tours to see where it can be improved. I'm delighted with Ben's recommended changes and I'm sure you will love then t...oo. He has embraced his favourite Alpine passes and found roads that will challenge the riders as they twist and turn throughout the day. These routes also capture outstanding views and stop at some really interesting towns and great hotels. I know it is short notice but we have fitted in the first run of this new tour 16-23 August. Final preparations for our Route Napoleon Alpine Tour were thwarted when rumours that the Col de la Bonette was open proved somewhat exaggerated.

During our recent tour in Portugal we were making our way towards the castle in Mertola but the road was blocked. Following what seemed to be the diversion we reached a fork; one leading up in the direction of the castle and the other down towards the river. The up path displayed a dead end sign but I figured that must be the way. Was it? https://youtu.be/Y8SOdel8SZE

As previously mentioned I've been exploring options to tour some Balkan countries and this has led to a plan to start a tour in Italy, cross to Albania, visit Macedonia and Corfu before returning to Italy. The plans are nearing completion but a few more visits to the region will be necessary before it is finalised. It is hoped to offer this tour in 2020. One country that we are considering offering a tour in 2020 is Albania. Why there you might ask, well it has a lot to offer the adventure bike rider. There is a good mixture of paved and gravel roads and for those who are a bit more ambitious there are lots of off-road riding possibilities too. The country has some great mountain ranges and national parks, lovely beaches and is steeped in history including ancient Greek and Roman archaeological sites. In short there is a lot packed into this small country and the cost of accommodation is very low by European standards meaning it offers great value for money. Look at the pictures taken from past research trips and you will get a flavour.

I've been away researching for tours that we plan to introduce for 2020 onwards including some of the former eastern block countries along the adriatic plus a few islands (Cyprus & Corfu). I'll post some pictures and video soon.

Back in Scotland to a slight scattering of snow. Heard folks discussing the idiot caught driving his car with very poor visibility and generally moaning about the weather. It reminded me a John Ruskin quote "Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather."

Our Tour of the Scottish West Coast Islands and Highlands still has a few remaining places for 25th May to 2nd June.
