Welcome to Mercanti Travel, your agency for excursions in the Riviera Maya, Mexico.
We are a British-Mexican company.
For the past eight years we have been dedicated to Fair trade tourism in the Yucatan Peninsula offering excursions away from mass tourism in touch with nature and the local people.
We love the history, archaeology, biology and great biodiversity of our region. In our trips you can immerse yourself in the daily life of the inhabitants, discover fabulous beaches, swim with sea turtles, watch dolphins, manatees, spider monkeys, flamingos, crocodiles and even visit the most famous Mayan sites of this area of Mexico.
All our excursions include a specialized guide who speaks fluent English and are designed for small groups of maximum 12 people.

The best time to travel to Tulum is in during Mexico’s dry season from December to April. Expect higher prices and crowds. Rainy season starts in Tulum around June and lasts until roughly October. Weather wise, it’s pretty much a flat, windless 80 degrees all year.
... I would recommend budgeting 3 to 4 days in Tulum. This is enough time to see the ruins, do a day trip or two if you want to and still have plenty of time to relax on the beach and sample the best restaurants.

From the booking process with the lovely Itzel to understanding us a family and organising the right trip, it was all very easy and perfectly coordinated. This is a company who focuses both on customer experience as well as the local communities.
My family and I were very privileged to enjoy 2 private tours last week, led by our brilliant friendly guide Ivan. He is not only very knowledgeable about history and archeology, he is also clearly passionate about the local communities and how to help them grow.
For our first tour, we went to Chichen Itza, with the majestic and impressive temple of Kukulcan, where Ivan enchanted us with stories of gods, Mayan calendar and astronomy.
We then went on to have a traditional Yucatan lunch of sopa de lima (a very refreshing chicken and lime soup) and cochinita pibil (a very tasty pork dish wrapped in banana leaves and cooked underground) served with a delicious hibiscus ice tea!
We then swam in the nearly beautiful cenote, which is a sinkhole typical from this part of the world. I can’t describe how amazing that was! You have to experience it first hand!Finally we stopped in the colonial town of Valladolid, with interesting architecture and beautiful paintings. Ivan took us to the chocolate shop, where we sampled local products and found out that the word chocolate actually comes from xocoatl, yet another treasure from Mexico !
For our second tour, we went to the Mayan city of Coba where we rode bikes through the forest until we reached and climbed the very impressive temple, standing high at 42m. What a view from the top!
We also walked through a spider monkey sanctuary, canoed and zipwired across a magnificent lagoon and absailed 11m down a stunning cenote!
My favourite part of this very exciting day, was spending time with a local Mayan family who truly lives in communion with nature, where everything has a purpose and nothing gets wasted. Their work with bees is particularly fascinating!
I could go on about how wonderful our experience was. Mercanti Travel exceeded all our expectations and delivered a truly amazing experience! THANK YOU for giving us these fantastic memories!
