Yesterday, after a rainy day, a quick walk round the Garden showed the start of the Autumn colour with leaves beginning to turn and berries reddening . . . and still the Perennials and grasses continue to give . . . just lovely!!

. . . and for the cat lovers amongst you, just a few furry friends hanging around . . . !!

We have some new additions to the Merriments family . . . they made us laugh so we couldn't resist. Supplied by a local company, each animal is hand painted so they all have their own unique expression!! They are frost resistant and can be mounted on a metal stake for use in the garden too . . .

Our petunias are producing an amazing late flush of colour, but many of our planters are in need of refreshing. We have a beautiful selection of Autumn Bedding available, grown by local producers such as Cade Street Nursery (thanks Rob!!)! There is always something rather theraputic about tidying away the last of summer and starting afresh!

Looks like a rather 'blustery day' in our rather smart Tree Area today...

Mango was helping Matt yesterday... they were just deciding what to do with the spade as she was in the wheelbarrow!

Once again the boys have the bit between their teeth!
Josh, fresh from his holiday, and Matt moving on straight from his success on the 'Tree Area Project' were joined by Neil Turner and his machinery. They have combined forces to start work on our next endeavour the 'Shade Structure Project'!!
Today they started the groundworks for a new Shade House being built in the Plant Area. Construction of the new structure begins on 1st October and when completed we will have a wonder...ful space for displaying all those plants that love a shady spot!!
This first image is from the company supplying us . . . it will be both beautiful and functional!!

All we need now are the trees!! I take my hat off to Matt, who single-handedly (with a little guidance from Mike Hills built our tree stands this week. Roll on Thursday when 188 trees will be arriving - both fruit and ornamental!

Calling all Plant Lovers!! For our many green fingered customers who know how to get the best out of their plants, we have plants that need a good home. We are selling off some of our old, sad stock that needs some tlc. These are various things that need to come out of their pots, splitting etc. and we don't want to overwinter them. Bargains to be had . . . but come quickly as things are going fast!!

User

I just love this time of year, as we start to tidy up after the madness of Summer and look to the calm serenity of Autumn. I love the rich colours, the light, the crisp early mornings . . .

Do you lose your gardening tools under plants? You just put it down for a second to tackle a plant and then you can't find it again! Well with our wonderful brightly coloured gardening tools you will never lose them again... they are brilliant!

Earlier this week, I was writing about being 'Dazzled by Dahlias' then today Sue sent me this picture of the display outside the front doors at Merriments . . . wow!!!

Visited the Merriments with a friend, loved the planting of the gardens. The staff were very helpful, particularly one man who went out of his way the find the name of a clematis for me, wish I had his name.

Took my parents for a cream tea today. Food was lovely. The shop has lots of unusual, charming gift ideas in it. The plants and pots were beautiful. And all reasonably priced. We will be back.

Lovely garden center. Beautiful variety of plants for sale and the grounds and gardens around make it a destination. Wish I would have had more time and could take plants home with me. (Canada)

Best Cream Tea I've ever had. The scones were out of this world. The service was awesome too. I'd go back every day if I lived nearby.

A beautiful gardener's garden which changes with the seasons, supported by a great team of knowledgeable staff. Nice shop and tasty food at the restaurant. I've had both Afternoon Tea and lunch and both were really good. The coffee is Lavazza and well made. Highly recommend the cheese scones!

User

Was quite impressed by this garden centre found the plant fair value, staff on hand and very helpful, not over priced like some others close by.

Restaurant was nice welcoming and pleasant! Sure I will be back again soon.

User
