About Mestizo

2014 Winner of Best Entrepreneur by Mexican Chamber of Commerce in UK + LUKAS Awards 2012 Best Mexican Restaurant in London.

Mestizo Description

Mestizo Restaurant & Tequila Bar opened in March 2005. Mexican owned, with Mexican chefs and staff, Mestizo provides the authentic touch in promoting Mexican culture and the owners are focused on their drive to truly show the vast variety, tastes and colours which authentic Mexican cuisine and culture has to offer.
Located at 103 Hampstead Road, a few minutes north of London’s West End, Tottenham Court Rd. , Warren St. tube Station and Euston station (main line & tube); Mestizo is open 7 days a week, continuously from noon until late, providing an extensive A la Carte menu of fine Mexican cuisine.
Every Sunday we have our traditional ‘Mexican Sunday Brunch’… a wonderful selection of fresh tacos made to order; eggs any style; traditional pozole, birria & menudo plus many other main course dishes to choose from, plus a selection of home made desserts, and unlimited Agua Frescas. The time for families and friends to gather and relax.
Our tequila bar, named by ‘Travel & Leisure’ as the ‘Sexiest Tequila Bar in Europe’, has an extensive range of over 180 + tequila. Our separate ‘DOWNSTAIRS’ at Mestizo lounge bar, provides a different atmosphere and can be used for cocktail parties, product launches, dining and corporate or private occasions. Our Mexican Thursday (Jueves Mexicano) is a popular weekly gathering of the younger Mexicans in London (and not so young) to enjoy fresh tacos from our taqueria, with Mexican music, dancing and special prices on our beverages.

I had Father's Day lunch today with my daughter and I enjoyed every minute of it. They had my favourite dessert and it brought back childhood memories! The staff are always friendly and the owner makes sure that everyone there is enjoying the experience. <3 <3 <3

User

I can't say more than I love it.

It's a place where you can enjoy a wonderful meal and amazing drinks.

The staff are friendly and helpful, been always able to help you.

Is the best place to celebrate with family and friends.

User

Friendly staff and excellent food . They cater for gluten intolerance and vegan.

User

Food was excellent friendly staff slow service to begin with but once the waitress attended to us she was great! Great birthday celebration!

User

By far the best Mexican restaurant in town. Mestizo knows how to cook up authentic tasting Mexican food, which is quite rare in London. If you're on the look out for good Mexican food, look no further. The chicken mole and chicken tinga tacos were delicious. Also one of the best tres leches cakesI've had. Will certainly be back!

User

Amazing food and super friendly staff. Thank you!

User

You know what I do love this place, I've now been 3 times, had my first date here with my girlfriend and went back last night for our one year anniversary. The food as always was exceptional, so flavoursome. I've never had the same thing twice as I'm so intrigued by the entire menu I want to make an effort to try something different each time. Only slight let down on last night's visit was the bar service. Don't get me wrong it was a busy night we've all been there, but the fact my Margarita arrived a good 10 mins before my girlfriends was a long wait. I was just about to mention it when it actually arrived and was saddened to see her drinks was the one we'd been looking at sat on the bar for a while.

But like I said can't fault the rest of the meal, or the rest of the service for that matter just seemed to be our initial first drinks order. Hasn't put me off and will definitely be back and if I'd been able to breath after my over indulging last night I'd have gone into the market as it wasn't there last time we visited. But will make a point of getting in there to sample some things to try at home.

Keep up the good work and as always thanks for the memories.

User

The best carnitas tacos in town! The staff in the main restaurant always so welcoming and friendly! Taco Thursday is the best taco value for money and with the best taste! I been to many Mexican restaurants and the taste is good but the portions are small and very pricey. I love the new Mestizo Market shop is beautiful and find a good selection of Mexican produce and curious. I like it! my mum likes it! 😄

User

Great Mexican food! Plus you have the Mexican market next door. Of course the best but is when you can have authentic tacos on a Thursday night, shame there is a cover charge now, but they are still great! :)

User

Authentic Mexican food (full of Mexican customers), expect a restaurant not a cantina. Try the molcajete or if you're vegetarian the chiles rellenos will make you fall in love. Lovely frozen margaritas and many tequilas but also some more unusual things like "michelada" beer with lime juice and salt, or "michelada preparada" same, but with added spices *hot• Sunday buffet is oh such good value and an opportunity to sample dishes you wouldn't have heard of otherwise.

User

Very friendly and attentive wait and bar staff. It is a bit pricey, but that is relative to your socio-economic standing. The food is good. However, the tortillas are a bit under-cooked on the enchiladas on two consecutive visits. Love the jalapeño margaritas!

User

Nice food, but the staff is unfriendly... even rude. Was there last Sunday for a birthday and at 2 they were literally taking the food out of my mouth. Today I'm in the area and decided to give it a go... I was 'received' by a very stressed woman on the phone who didn't even bothered to look at me when I said I don't have a reservation. Not even a gesture of 'Give me a moment to see if we can do something'. Even if they couldn't. Manners are important, at least to me.

Anyway, if you value food more than manners I think is a place you would like to visit.

User

It pains me to say this, but I was there for the Mexico vs Germany game and whilst the food is probably the best in London, the management of this event had made this quite an experience that afternoon/evening. The fact that everyone was cheering on Mexico together was probably the best part of this whole thing...and also that we won!

-TV's: The sound was not on for a good amount of time and people including me were yelling to turn the volume on, nor were the screens already prepped and on the correct channel... the game had already started, so we missed the national anthems. Also, the images on screens were not crisp.

-There was only 1 bathroom for probably a large capacity of 150-200ish people. I'm sure the health and safety department are probably not okay with that. This could have been something really dangerous and the restaurat shouldn't be taking chances like that.

-Also the fact that the place was ram-packed with people made everything more difficult: took AGES to use the loo and if you wanted to use the downstairs bathrooms, you had to pay another £5?!?, people were shoving a bit because there was no space, so you can forget going to the bar or getting food. It's also not good if you have older people with you who aren't able to stand as much or other people who have some sort of injury or condition.

-Management (not waiters or bartenders) were also really rude to my friends (when they tried to reason with them, after they had spent loads of time and money there).

I appreciate Mestizo are trying to run a business, but you have to be open and hear out what people think otherwise it will only negatively affect the performance of the business. It's truly a shame and saddens me, but I hope they can take what me and other have been saying and turn this place around with regards to how they treat their customers and how they run these special events. I'd hate to see it stay that way, as it is one of the major faces of Mexico in London.

User

I went here to see the Mexico v Germany game. They had the wrong Tv channel on and we ended up missing the first few minutes of the game. The Tv reception was awful as it kept cutting out! We were unable to get a drink as there was a human circle which you had to queue in to buy tokens. The atmosphere was good though, and they had a paid Mexican shill to get the crowd going; although some of his chants were a bit weird like “Fish and Chips” and “I’ve got the power”. The funniest thing was the staff, who were eating chocolate cake during the game, and when Mexico scored, everyone got covered in cake

User

We went to watch the Mexico vs. Germany game today. We had to pay £5 to get in, which was completely acceptable however, they didn't realise that they had the wrong channel on and we missed the national anthems and the first few minutes of the game. The transmission quality of the telly was RUBBISH and kept cutting out every couple of minutes, which ruined the experience! We also had to queue for an hour to get tokens to buy drinks and food. It would have made more sense to be able to just pay for them at the bar.

I have to say this is the first and last time I go there for a special event.

Honestly, if you are going to be hosting these sort of events, you need to be better prepared! Get some quality TV's!

User

Unfortunately not a very friendly place to share a good time. Overpriced

User

This is not proper mexican food. If you are going to serve to mexican people at least tell them that you don't have the correct ingredients, it's not ethical to sell something that you don't have, it was really dissapointing and it wasn't cheap by the way. Second time and I don't want to cone back.

But I can tell that the staff were really nice.

User

Tasteless food, rude staff and exceptionally pricey food. Avoid at all costs

If I could give less than a one star I would. I am not one to complain, ever, but this is too much for me to not do it. I am honestly so embarrassed by mestizo as on more than one occasion the service staff have made me feel TERRIBLE. I am Mexican and have spoken so highly about the quality of Mexican food and the friendliness of its people. Twice I have come to mestizo in the last 3 months to be treated like trash. They have reminded us about 12 times about how quickly we have to leave the tables, they have taken starter plates before they are even cleared and shown a complete lack of customer care. Tonight we were repeatedly told about how the kitchen would be to busy to deal with our table as they had a party of 25 coming in. We were a party of 6 ordering lots of drinks, starters, mains and were planning on desserts. We were told that the next group was here so our bill would be brought to the table, even though we still had drinks and one main still going. The same waitress then offered us desserts, at which point I got very upset as I had just been told matter of factly, by her, that our bill was on its way. I get it that a table of 25 will be spending a lot, but considering our bill was 250 for the night, I expected a bit better service. The food has always been exceptional, but I can’t handle the terrible service at mestizo, next time I will pretend to be English to see if they don’t serve me with such distain and treat me and my guests like the scum of the earth. Really really disappointed by this, paints my country in a horrible light and I am honestly embarrassed to have this be what they think of it. I am never coming back to mestizo, no matter how good the food or how much it fills my Mexican home sick soul, I’d rather eat a burrito from Tesco and be treated like a human being than do this again. Disgusting service. You should be ashamed.
