Middlesex University Description

Middlesex University is a world-class centre for education, research and skills-based learning, with a history stretching back more than 130 years.

To get here, we’ve had to constantly challenge ourselves, invent and evolve. And thanks to the expertise and active involvement of our expert lecturers, you’ll receive an education that’s both innovative and inspiring.

We’ve invested £200 million in state-of-the-art facilities at our campus home in Hendon, north London, which is one of the biggest and most spacious in the capital and means our students have everything they need – including 24 /7 support. Our diverse faculty of students and staff comes from more than 150 countries across the world and we have a global network of alumni.

We offer a wide range of courses, taught by academics who are also researchers or practitioners in their field, who share their real-life experience with their students.

Our degrees focus on employability and we provide careers support and work-placement opportunities to give our students an insight into working in their chosen industries.

“The day was so full, it was overwhelming that uni was ending but I was so so happy that I’d made it. Our group were chatting away, and one minute Mackenzie was talking to Mum and Dad and the next minute I turned around and he was getting down on one knee! In the excitement of everything I gave him the wrong hand which you can see in the picture 😂” Bethany, graduate of Psychology with Counselling...and fiancé 💍✨🎉😍
❤️ Graduation declarations ... of love! Huge congrats Bethany & Mackenzie ❤️

Our amazing Arts & Creative Industries students really, er, drew a crowd (sorry - couldn't resist!) at their final show at The Old Truman Brewery. People visited from far and wide to see the artwork on show and we've been tagged in so many great photos, posts and articles about the event, it was hard to pick just a few to show off 💫
While it's the end of a journey, it's really just the beginning for these incredible artists. You're such a talented bunch, and we're super proud of every one of you ❤️ don't forget to tag yourselves in the pics!

who would still bring animals to use as an attraction for an event in 2017? please do reconsider, having a "License from Animal Health and DEFRA" doesn't mean a thing, it's still abuse. exactly like whales don't belong in a seapark, reindeer don't belong to any city christmas party/event. it's common sense.

User

the students and the student office have a very peculiar way to see apology to terrorism, thinking there are context where it is ok to celebrate the death of the charlie hebdo journalists

If that is your idea of higher education you will have the time of your life there with kindred minds, if on the other hand you don't think killing people is the solution to anything you should apply elsewhere

User

You would think that a forward thinking university would understand animal welfare responsibilities. One star for abusing wildlife and using live reindeer as an attraction to your Christmas Market. Animals are not commodities to bring in the punters. Poor show😠

Oh... but it's okay according to Ben Patterson at the university because the company who transport these poor animals from pillar to post have a DEFRA license and also a Performing Animal License from the local Authority. Well that's okay then, if they're licensed to abuse animals. Silly me!

User

Reindeers are sensitive timid WILD animals who roam freely in the wilderness in herds socialising with other animals. Transported in trailers and trucks, in noisy cities, in traffic and kept in captivity to be petted by loud, emotionally unattuned and detached humans in order to satisfy their silly christmas fantasies is very SELFISH. You can come up with anything else that does not involve the exploitation and misery of sentient beings who should be left alone to live their life in peace in their natural environment. Please cancel this cruel event ASAP.

User

Please stop commoditising sentient beings. By exposing people to the use of animals for entertainment you are both undermining the importance of empathy and frustrating the natural instincts of innocent creatures. I fail to see how reindeer would benefit from being transported to unfamiliar surroundings and kept enclosed only to be transported again shortly afterwards once they have served their purpose.

User

Please don’t exploit reindeer, let them live their lives as nature intends. Animals are not here to serve us any more than we are here to serve them. Transporting them to this country puts their health and safety at risk. They are not likely to survive for long, away from their natural habitat!

User

Please cancel your Reindeer event. Animals are not props to be used, they are sentient beings. This is completely the wrong environment for them and will cause them a huge amount of stress!

User

Please cancel this cruel event ASAP . Reindeers are sentient beings. They are not "for fun" or "decoration". Middlesex University London, people not gonna respect you if you don't have respect for those who can't speak for themselves. Reindeers are wild animals. They are afraid of noises and crowded places. You have so many different options for Christmas event. Why did you choose animal exploitation? Did you even think about this? I hope you will cancel this event- make this world a better and smarter place for everyone.

User

Please cancel the Christmas reindeer event, for the science, common sense and your humanity.

Animals are sentient beings, they are not here for our entertainment. Reindeers do not survive outside of arctic environment and the often die when imported to warmer climate, or are likely to develop all sort of parasite caused infections.

Must we indulge the irrational celebration of the birth of middle eastern man by abusing arctic animals?

User

No support from tutors, staff members, or the so called 'help teams' that they have. This is possibly the most money grabbing University in London and they do not care about their students in the slightest, everything they do is to make sure they will consistently have new students for 1st year so they can get their £9,000 from each of us. My course was all over the place, my tutors were changed around constantly therefore there was no consistency during my lessons, nothing useful was uploaded to my learning and the list goes on. An awful experience.

User

I was so sad and upset to see your university showing our young peole that animals are nothing more than entertainment :( The Reindeer are kept just for these terrible viewings and if you look up Reindeers kept in captivity they die much younger due to high stress and bacteria problems because they are not able to adjust . Please cancel this and think of something more creative and compassionate.

User

I think it’s terrible to use animals , for entertainment.

Not only is it very distressing for them but it makes humans that hire them for parade etc no better then a ringmaster at a circus. Please leave animals alone and in their natural environment.

User

I love attending Middlesex University but am deeply saddened and concerned at the continued use of live reindeer at each year's Christmas market. I urge you to consider the ethical implications - it causes great distress and even sickness to the animals, and is highly exploitative and outdated. Please cancel.
