Monkey Music introduces music to very young children in a way they easily understand and enjoy. Established in London in 1993, classes are now a weekly treat for 1, 000s of families across the UK.
Helen has run Monkey Music in Bromley, Chislehurst and Hayes for 12 years now. Starting when her own daughters were small, Monkey has been a constant part of family life. All 3 of her children loved Monkey Music, and have gone on to sing and play instruments. Helen is married to a musician, Rhydian, who plays cello in the orchestra at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Helen plays the double-bass, and the 2 of them regularly take their instruments into classes when the Ding Dong children (aged 3-4 years) are learning about the orchestra. Helen says "with 3 children and Monkey to look after, life is never dull! "
Monkey Music Weekly Classes:
1) Rock 'n' roll – from 3 months:
Designed specifically for Mums, Dads and very young babies to share together.
During each class the babies and adults are engaged through gentle songs, fascinating sounds and absorbing activities.
2) Heigh ho – from 12 months:
Young toddlers love being up on their feet so lots of dancing and moving encourages the children to explore the space around them and express the music they hear.
The children thrive on the 'steady beat' and are very enthusiastic young members of the Monkey Music band. Themed classes and bold colourful props captivate the children and encourage everyone to get involved.
3) Jiggety jig – from 2 years:
By this stage, children can really express the joy that music brings them. They sing, dance, play, move, tell stories, speak, and listen to music together.
Monkey Music teachers make sure that the children develop their sense of rhythm whilst playing in time to Monkey Music songs and games. Hoops, parachute games and circle dances are always popular Jiggety Jig activities.
4) Ding dong – from 3 years
Up until now the children have been listening and responding to music they hear. Now that their ears have been ‘finely tuned’ Monkey Music teaches them what music means when they see it written down.
Reading simple traditional musical notation comes easily to Monkey Music children as it is integrated into the final part of our interactive curriculum

Such a great class to do, my daughter enjoys every week.
Over the last 8 years both of my children have attended MM classes from rock ‘n roll through to ding dong and I cannot recommend MM highly enough! The classes are taught by wonderful teachers and the children not only learn so much, they have a brilliant time. Now that my youngest child has finished MM, I’m going to miss it!
My son attended for 2 years before school. We found the class very engaging and gave a good introduction to music. It was fun and welcoming and really helped in his confidence skills.
My little girl has been going to Monkey Music from a very young age. My husband and I are both musical and I wanted her to have an activity that we both could enjoy. Run by people who know about music, and appreciate how children learn to love music too.
She's now nearly 4 and still going. And my little 8 month old is about to start.
The Cd's really complement the class. We put them on in the car during a tantrum and calm is resumed.
I really enjoy the classes, it's something we can do together and have special time.

My daughter has been going to Monkey Music since she was 3 months old. She loves to sing, dance and play instruments and the classes have really helped to gain key skills such as listening, copying actions and socialisation as well as thoroughly enjoying herself. She loves Becky her monkey music teacher.
