Museum Of Brands Description

Unwrap 200 years of consumer society at the Museum of Brands. Travel through the Museum’s time tunnel of 12, 000 objects and unwrap 150 years of consumer society, decade by decade. From Cadbury’s to Coca-Cola, Monster Munch to Matey Bubble Bath, so many brand stories are here. Rediscover design classics, forgotten childhood toys and products long since consigned to history.

The fascinating changes in style, design, fashion, entertainment, communications, travel, transport and behaviour can all be traced through our unique collection.

Located just off the famous Portobello Road in London’s Notting Hill, the Museum is regularly described as one of London’s quirkiest Museums.

Our award-winning gift shop sells brand-inspired items created from images in the Collection and the café offers light lunches, tea, coffee and refreshments.

Yesterday I spent 2hrs maybe two hours and a half to visit the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising here in London.

highly recommended! It’s marvelous, so dense; one more relevant things: you can’t take photos! so you must pay attention to all the stuff and take notes (real notes) to remember what you liked.

I have many interesting things to share in my notes, but if I have to choose one this is my choice: Always #Likeagirl

Visited with my wife for the second time having popped in last summer on our honeymoon. Brought along her mother and sisters who all enjoyed it as much as we had. Only subtle differences from our previous visit, but we had a lovely chat with the owner who was keen to give us some additional insight. For anyone who grew up in the UK or anyone with an interest in the history of the last 100 years of British history in particular it's an absolute must visit. Lovely little cafe with garden area where we enjoyed a nice spot of refreshment at an agreeable price. There was one small area closed off which seemed to be receiving a new installation, but this wasn't detrimental to the overall experience. All in all, thoroughly recommended!

This museum was fascinating! It was an unusual suggestion from a young friend and I am so glad I took the chance to experience it!

The collection is unbelievable and as the name states traces the history of brands, packaging and advertising. The leaps that occur as cultures ebb and morph through time from the rise of American television and the pop/rock music industry and the Space Age influence on toys and promotion were very interesting.

Located in Notting Hill, the area is beautiful and it is worth the visit to view the collection. You make your way through the exhibit chronologically and can take it at your own pace.

Very cool spot and well worth the visit. I would take other visitors there to see it again. Staff was pleasant and the facility very well appointed. Great spot!

Really interesting and nostalgic to see brands that are still around today as well as ones that have disappeared. So much to see covering all aspects of life, interesting to see how fashions and popular culture influenced marketing.

User

Myself and 30 students visited the museum yesterday. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and I would highly recommend a visit.

Just a few yards from Ladbroke Grove underground station, this museum was a lot better than I was expecting. Greeted by friendly staff, we went through the time tunnel showing us a wealth of products and brands from the Victorian age to the present day, in chronological order. Crammed full of items, it really merits a second visit to take it all in. The coffee shop is pleasantly situated next to the garden, all very tastefully done. Close to Portobello Road too.

User

I went today and loved it. It was a fantastic trip down memory lane

User

Fantastic place bought back so many memories

User

Excellent morning spent looking at all the displays and remembering the items that were part of my life So interesting and nostalgic 🤗

An unassuming yet brilliant little museum located to the west of London, with easy access via the Hammersmith and City Line from Paddington or Hammersmith stations - you need to get off at Ladbroke Grove.

From first entering the building to leaving I had spent a little over two hours in all and I wasn’t disappointed by the owner’s collection. The museum is laid out on one floor with a wonderful garden and cafe at the end of the main collection.

The exhibits make you audibly exclaim “I remember those!” It’s also fascinating exploring the changes in attitudes and acceptability towards advertising, brands and packaging over the decades.

An excellent find on a quiet Sunday morning.

User

An amazing collection of brands through the ages.

How they have evolved and some that no longer exist.

An amazing trip down memory lane.

Lovely gardens & a great cafe too.

Highly recommended.

User

An absolute delight to visit this museum. A memory lane to experience. There’s so much to see so I’ll be visiting again. The garden is a lovely place to relax too.

User

Amazing collection! A travel through time and space to experience how the design of everyday objects is evolving

User

User

A great place to visit ,a step back in time ,friendly people at the reception desk ,gift shop,a small bar and a lovely garden !!!..if you got kids I would definitely recommend

User

A fascinating museum that's well worth a visit. The displays are very comprehensive and extremely well presented, and we both commented on the high quality of the items on display, irrespective of their age. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, both at reception and in the cafe. Highly recommended for an enjoyable few hours.

A double journey of delight for me as my twin sister and I were born just a couple of streets away over 71 years ago. Revisiting the area was a mirror to the lesson provided by the collection itself - much has changed - so much is familiar. The North Kensington Library where she worked still there - the adjacent Royalty cinema where we watched entranced now an art workspace. The KPH boarded up.

I spent about 2 and a half hours saying out loud " Oh look-Spangles, Reckitts Blue,OMO,Radio Times " etc.Apologies to those annoyed by my childlike delight.

I was intrigued by the subtle changes in brand labelling and font style, package and portion sizes and contemporary trends e.g. Gluten free- never had it in my day!

The publications, especially those from wartime seemed hauntingly familiar even though as a 'baby boomer' we never experienced the full impact personally. But playing in the bomb sites and queuing with mum to collect ration books were very much a part of my formative memories.

So, a day of much reflection, happiness and nostalgia rolled into one.

A huge vote of thanks to those enlightened enough to initiate and develop this essential tool in our understanding of the life around us and its influence .

I'm returning soon to reengage my memories and emotions and also enjoy the warmth and enthusiasm of the front of house team. Hopefully the rain will have stopped and I can reflect a while in the delightful garden.

Very good chronological display from Victorian times to modern times. Disappointing the the Suffragettes did not get a mention in the display but had a whole section in the shop.

More interesting than I was expecting.

User

Loved it! So much nostalgia and I particularly loved seeing products and packaging from my childhood that I'd quite forgotten. Displays are not sophisticated but practical and fit for purpose. I enjoyed the video too. It's probably not a museum that would hold much interest for anyone unfamiliar with the UK for at least 30 years, e.g. foreign tourists who have not lived here. Nice little cafe and excellent shop. My only criticism was that I was there on a cold day and it was very chilly inside but that might have been a temporary heating problem. Well done to all those who put this great little museum together. Some terrific transistor radios, by the way. A real gem!
