Well this has really brightened up our day! One of our lovely volunteers and chararones Patrick got in touch with us to share an extract from this book his sister in Australia has been reading. It's a fictional detective story - The Final Curtain by Priscilla Masters - based in Leek, and includes a wonderful scene at the New Vic! Two of the characters in the novel visit the theatre to watch Carmen, which we actually performed in 2003! Wow, not only have we been immortalised in fiction but we're also being read about across the other side of the world!
Our favourite quote: 'You wonder how you ever enjoyed plays looking up at a flat, elevated platform rather than being amongst it all'.
And evidently we're a destination for romance, too... <3

New on the blog 🗒️: While sadly there is nothing on at the New Vic this month, we thought we would try and cheer up our lovely audiences by sharing some recommendations of ways to keep entertained while isolating at home 🏠♥️

Hello all, we just wanted to let you know how ‘Eric’ is doing, in light of the current situation.
Eric’s Full Monty, originally due to open this Friday, has been rescheduled.
We had planned to move the show to dates in May, however, we’ve been closely monitoring Government advice and after some consideration, have now decided to reschedule it to the end of the summer.
... If you have tickets booked, please check your emails – you should find one from us discussing your options. We’re also making as many calls to our customers as we can.
Thank you for your patience and support during these unprecedented times. We hope you are staying safe and well. We’re missing seeing you at the New Vic and can’t wait to welcome you back ‘round’ ours just as soon as we are able to for the ultimate, fun-packed, feel-good 60s party with Eric!

Time to applaud all the work our Education team does including New Vic Youth Theatre and Ages & Stages this #WorldTheatreDay! 👏
Our fab Senior Youth Theatre haven't let the current circumstances get them down. They've continued with virtual youth theatre sessions online... and let's not forget that not so long ago they featured in a New Vic first, as the National Theatre Connections show #TheChangingRoom was live streamed to Facebook! And you can still watch it here: http://b...it.ly/3bs8ngU
Meanwhile Ages & Stages members have been sharing what the New Vic means to them. We've had some lovely comments, including...
"One of my happiest memories is as a member of the Community Cast, taking the curtain call to #BrassedOff. To see so many happy people applauding and smiling was really rewarding and made me realise what pleasure theatre can bring to all people in all walks of life"
"By joining the Community Chorus & taking two minor parts in #VotesForWomen I was part of the Trafalgar Square crowd scene with professional actors who were playing suffragettes. Feeling the overall energy of this scene was one of the best experiences I've had since retirement"
We feel privileged to work alongside such incredible individuals and groups ❤️
