Recently attended 16th Staffordshire Conference on Clinical Biomechanics which was preceeded by a day conference on strength and conditioning. There was an excellent talk given on why older people should take muscle strength seriously - it helps maintain independence and reduces falls. There are a number of events commemorating 100 years since the mining disaster at the Minnie Pit, Halmerend. For further information follow this link:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/…/uk-england-stoke -staffordshire-42607…
Many families were affected in and around Halmerend. It's a piece of local history worth remembering - men and boys losing their lives to extract coal which was required to fuel the country at the time. I hope you find it of interest.

Colder weather is on it's way so keep your feet warm and dry. Wear warm stockings or socks and shoes that will protect your feet against the cold and have good grips on wet or icy surfaces. It is the season for chilblaines which can be painful. For more information on these have a look at the NHS Choices website:- https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chilblains/
