Ear mites facebook post...
Ear mites are mites that live in the ears of animals and humans. The most commonly seen species in Veterinary medicine is Otodectes Cynotis (Gk. Oto=ear, dectes=biter, cynotis=of the dog). They are barely visible to the human eye and they may be tolerated without clinical signs in some animals, particularly cats. An infestation produces brownish ear wax, similar in appearance to coffee grounds. ... (CUPPA ANYONE)?
Typical points relating to ear mite infection are:
• It can occur in any age group, although is more common in puppies and kittens. • It occurs in both cats and dogs, although more commonly in cats. • Infection may affect one or both ears • In dogs, infection is more commonly associated with itchy and a red, inflamed ear canal. • Ear mites are transmitted through social interactions between pets • Ear mites are not generally considered a risk to humans • Ear mites, once diagnosed can be successfully treated with a number of medications • Because ear mites are contagious, all pets in the household (both dogs and cats) should be treated for ear mites. Your Vet can provide assistance in choosing the most effective treatment for your pets.

LEECH USES IN THE TREATMENT OF AURAL HAEMATOMAS.
Leeches have been used in human and Veterinary medicine for centuries, and in recent times have enjoyed a revival in both fields.
We use Leeches primarily in the treatment of aural haematomas in small animals. Aural haematomas are basically a collection of blood and fluid within all or part of the ear flap, usually caused by an ear infection, either primarily, or secondary to allergies, whereby constant scratching and shaking...

The most unforgettable Hudson came in to visit us on a couple of occasions this week for Blood tests and a Dental descale and polish, then again yesterday to have his Blood Pressure measured. It wasn't only his good behavior that grabbed our attention but also his trade mark tongue poking out to say hello! Isn't he just the cutest thing!

Castration of our pet Dogs. .....should we or shouldn’t we?
Neutering is the collective term used to describe the procedure of removing an animals reproductive organs and so preventing them from breeding. More specifically, spaying is the term used in Females and castration in Males.... For the purpose of this post, we will focus on castration in Dogs... ....TO CASTRATE OR NOT TO CASTRATE, THAT IS THE QUESTION.
The answer to this question is not so clear-cut and will vary depending on who you are speaking to and also the individual Vet’s experiences. Castration is ABSOLUTELY recommended if your pet is CRYPTORCHID, that is, if one or both of the testes are not located within the scrotal sac. This was the case with handsome Simba seen here. He had a testicle retained within his groin and was very brave for his castration procedure here at Norbury Pet Health Centre. Vets will ALWAYS recommend castration in this circumstance as the retained testicle/testes have a higher risk of becoming cancerous. By castrating your pet dog at a younger age, you not only eliminate the risk of Testicular tumours but you also reduce the risk of them developing Testosterone related diseases. However, there is also some evidence to suggest that castrating your Dog TOO EARLY could adversely affect their development and may also increase their chances of developing certain types of cancer later in life.
SO, for this reason, more so than ever before, pet owners are searching for alternative methods to SURGICAL CASTRATION.
The SUPRELORIN IMPLANT offers us and you as pet owners, this choice. A simple injection will enable you to see the effects that castration would have on your dog, without the PERMANENCE of surgery. Available in 2 sizes lasting at least 6 months and 12 months. AND if you don’t like the results, you simply let the effects wear off with no need to remove the implant.
WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE?
If you are considering castrating your dog or if you have any questions regarding the SUPRELORIN IMPLANT, please call the surgery on 0208 764 1254
