About Northgate Village Surgery

Northgate Village Surgery is a friendly well established GP training practice established in 1991 and based in the center of Chester.

Northgate Village Surgery Description

Northgate Village Surgery is a friendly well established GP training practice.

The doctors and staff here at Northgate Village in Chester are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare.

We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.

As our surgery is a teaching practice we occasionally have groups of medical students working with us to further their education. During their time with us, they are required to sit in during appointments from time to time. If you do not feel comfortable with this, please inform a member of staff when you book your appointment or as soon as possible on arrival.
We also have additional doctors called registrars. Registrars usually work with us for a year, helping them become fully qualified GP's.

We are open five days a week Monday-Friday 8: 00am-6: 30pm and are closed during weekends and bank holidays.
Once a month the practice closes for training between 12: 00-5: 00pm (Further information with the dates are allocated on our website).

The majority of our surgeries are run on an appointment system where you can ring us on 01244 564319 or book online via patient access to arrange a routine appointment if you are a patient here at Northgate Village Surgery.

For more urgent matters that should be dealt with on the day, we provide a Duty Doctor Telephone Triage system where you will be contacted by the Duty Doctor who will ring you back to discuss your problem. They will advise you or make an appointment for you to be seen when they feel appropriate.

We also have routine Doctor and Nurse telephone appointments available where they will call you back after their morning surgery to discuss test results, travel advice and other health advice that can be dealt with over routinely over the telephone.

For those housebound we can offer Home Visits from a doctor or assistance from the District Nurse team.

This week is #ImmunisationWeek.
Did you know that smallpox (a highly infectious, unpleasant and sometimes deadly illness 🦠) was the first disease EVER to be eradicated by humans? This was done through a huge global immunisation effort in the 60s and 70s. So many people were vaccinated that the disease couldn't spread, which caused it to be wiped out! Smallpox was declared as eradicated in 1980. This means that nobody today will catch smallpox. 🥳
... Immunisations are a key part in keeping yourself, your family and your friends safe. The more people who are immune to diseases, the less they will spread, which will protect people who cannot have vaccinations for medical reasons. To find out more about the vaccines which are available free of charge on the NHS follow the link below.

April is #NationalStressAwarenessMonth. Stress causes physical changes in the body designed to help you take on threats or difficulties. If you are constantly stressed, your body stays in a state of high alert and you may develop stress-related symptoms, which can be emotional, mental, physical or behavioural. Visit the The Stress Management Society website to find out more about stress, and how you can reduce it.

In March 114 appointments were wasted through patients not attending. This is over 19 hours of clinic time! If you no longer require your appointment, please let us know so that your appointment can be used by someone else who needs it. Did you know that if we have your mobile number we can send you reminder texts, and you can even cancel your appointment via text message? 📱

Please note that the current turn around time for cervical smear results may be longer than usual (approx 2 weeks), with some results taking up to 6 weeks to arrive, so please do not be concerned if your smear result takes longer than expected to arrive. ✉️
