🗣Attention All Assistants - this post is for you ❤ whether you’re just beginning your journey to becoming a hairdresser (or any trade) or find yourself already years into it, starting out can be mentally and physically draining. You’ll find yourself running around in circles, cleaning till your sick of it, constantly taking instruction, keeping clients happy, back pain and chapped hands. Its not easy is it? At times it can be extremely tiring and perhaps even feel demorali...sing, as you begin to think you’re doing everything but hair. And hair after all was the one reason you started this journey, right? But as I reflect now, much further into my career, I see how crucial it was to learn the fundamentals and functionings of the salon first. Finding your feet, then gaining a firm footing, then, before you know it, the operations of your trade have become second nature. It’s so easy to begrudge the extras that we put in but just remember, it’s all helping to shape you into the stylist you will one day be, every bit puts you that much closer. Take on those jobs, no matter how menial they may be, come in on your days off for the extra learning and development, ask those questions that may seem stupid. This is YOUR career and you get out what you put in. Don’t measure yourself or your success against others, only yourself and push hard. We are the next generation, and if we give it our all, it won’t be long until that sponge becomes a pair of scissors and that hoover becomes a dryer. You can do it! 💪 - @danielwinborn

This colour took a year and a half of waiting. Why? Damage control. Ronnie used to bleach and dye her own hair constantly, and I’ll admit she was doing an alright job of it. However, it only took her one bleach gone wrong and a little bit of overlap which caused so much breakage that she ended up with short bits all over the crown of her hair. When she first came in for a consultation I told her we needed to grow out her old bleach and in the mean time work on condition. We kept cutting it regularly and when it was finally safe to bleach it again we went for it. She’s now on a strict schedule with her roots and staying away from home bleach forever. “But the Kardashians done it in one day, why can’t I?” The reason that it takes everyone a while to get from dark to light quickly is because most people don’t have the daily/weekly access to hairdressers that many celebrity’s have. This is my client Martha’s 2nd appointment with myself and we’re choosing to take the ‘journey’ slowly. That way, it’s not so much stress on her hair, it’s fairly easy to look after at home and stays looking great even with 8 weeks in between appointments. 💅 @normanboulton

A little rant about what you don't see on Instagram
So, have you ever seen a transformation video that actually shows you when it doesn't work? Well, here's one. I’m a pretty confident colourist, confident enough to know that I am still a great colourist even if I can’t achieve what my client wanted. Even if my video doesn’t make me look and feel like a superhero. Because this one video represents the other twenty failed attempts that actually happen every day. And believe me..., there are at least 20 attempts or the client being turned away, for every incredible magical transformation you see online going from dark to light.
My client was never promised blonde, though of course she’d seen the icy bombshells of Instagram and hoped it was possible. My promise was this, after strand testing, I will lighten your hair slowly, with Innoluxe over a period of a year. But when that day comes, when your hair starts to wave the little SOS flag, I'm afraid our time is up and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. We lightened her hair twice from the black box die, and yes it did well for the first two lifts. But every appointment afterward, when she came to have it lightened, we turned her down. For the next 6 months, we settled into a routine of semi-permanent colours and treatments and she had absolutely no options to progress. Her hair would almost certainly fall out.
You see, we cant cheat science and Not Another Salon is committed to helping the world understand that. Once again, you, the consumer, are not to blame. We, the hair industry as a whole are. never got to write a review when I came so am doing now. I traveled 3 & a half hours to visit the salon and will continue to do so for aslong as my multi coloured hair days go on. From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out I've never felt so at home in a place id never visited before. Didn't really give much direction as to what I wanted apart from 'lots of colour' and as an artist myself zero direction can be incredibly hard.My hair had previously been dyed etc so i don't have a clue how she did it. I got complimented as soon as I stepped out the salon, & I felt amazing for my 21st.Thankyou so much to the whole teamÔøΩ

What a gorgeous, friendly, talented bunch! The attention and care given to myself and my daughter by all of the team was phenomenal. Amazing hair by Ross too. Highly recommend this salon.

There aren't enough words to describe how amazing Sophia and her team are.

Me and a friend attended the perfect bleed course today. Not only was it the best education I have ever had, you can see how much passion Sophia and her team have for what they're doing.

We were made to feel so welcome and comfortable during our time in the academy, without feeling under pressure or awkward (which some educators can do)

I would highly recommend booking onto any of the education courses, we will definitely be back for more.

I've been to parties that I enjoyed less than having my hair done here.

I visited on my first week to treat my sister to a blowdry and for a hair up for an event with Ross. Not only is the salon beautiful, unique and authentic for clients but Sophia and Ross are constantly hosting industry events educating hairdressers and networking people and spreading their love and passion. Truly inspirational people and a wonderful hair home. Love you guys xxx

I travelled from Southampton to London three times in the lead up to my wedding in order to get my dream hair and it was definitely worth it! Not Another Salon transformed my hair spectacularly to give me Rainbow bangs I'd always wanted to try. From my first consultation to day before my wedding, the staff were always delightful and explained everything they were doing to my hair as they were doing it. The colour on the hair was perfectly bold for my rainbow themed wedding and, as expected, faded to pastel shades in the weeks that followed. I wish I lived closer to this salon so I could try more creative hair colours in the future! Very professional and not at all judgemental about my slightly offbeat wedding hair choices!

I really become uneasy going to new places and have never enjoyed getting my hair done in my life... until today. What an amazing bunch of people! I was there from 9am-4pm and I enjoyed every moment - the team are so attentive and they really put you at ease. I even asked if something could be tweaked and they wasted no time in sorting it for me.

Shout out to Spooky and Norman for spending so much time with me today and making my hair utterly fabulous ÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩ

After waiting years I finally have the most beautiful hair thanks to Norman and the team at not another salon, words don’t do it justice how happy I am I will definitely be coming back again and again and again��

I have never been inclined to review anything before, but my experience at Not Another Salon was just brilliant. I havent been to a salon in years, and was blown away by Harriet's cut and balayage. She really listened to what I wanted and overexceeded any expectations I could have had- my hair looks amazing ! Everything in the salon is so well considered; from the decor, the genuinely friendly vibes, the delicious range of drinks; they just go over and above to genuinely make you feel welcome and at ease and I couldn't stop texting everyone to tell them how great it was. Thank you so much !

I had my hair cut and coloured today by Annie. It’s the first time I’ve properly felt comfortable in a hair salon. The cut and colour is amazing and Annie got what I wanted just from one photo. Aaron was also so nice and looked after me so well! Will be coming back soon x

I came here today after going through a really hard time with pulling at my hair for years. I was unbelievably anxious but by the end of my appointment with Spooky I was so relaxed and looking forward to my journey to healthy beautiful hair. Honestly I never thought I'd feel comfortable going to a hairdressers to sort my hair out, to now say that I'm excited to go back is a huge huge triumph and it's very much down to the welcoming open non judgemental vibe and the care Spooky took in listening to me. I attended the Balayage one day course at Not Another Salon yesturday, it was a full day of learning. We were all made to feel very welcome and the vibe was very relaxed. Both Sophia & Carla were great educators and clearly very passionate and knowledgable about what they do. Learnt loads, thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it :)))

Had the best time here - as the olaplex is so good my purple washed out really quickly, I phoned them back and they offered me to come in for free and re-die my whole head of hair for free as an apology. I was also given 4 pots of colour to take away. Incredible service ÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩÔøΩ

Booked my 14 year old in for a cut/blow dry as she wanted to go for a drastic change ,from very long hair into a bob , and I knew that it would be worth the money going to the best salon we could think of for this cut.

Here are her words :

The staff were so nice, and it was the best cut ever! Ross is a brilliant hairdresser and he was really nice too !They really care about your hair, and would be truthful with the way you want your hair cut, and wether it suits you or not. I'm definitely going there again, it sure is worth the cost!!



She paid half the cost btw as she was so keen to get hair cut at notanothersalon ! ÔøΩ

Although I only popped in to see Tegan. I was greeted by a charming young Irish man. He was very attentive and offered me a drink and spoke enthusiastically about hairdressing and the industry. The team were friendly and the salon is stunning with a great vibe. Well done Sofia you Nailed it!

Although I have not coloured my hair (too short to bleach and test for now) I I love the atmosphere. You don't feel like a pariah. No matter how you look, your race or identity. Salute you all, first place I ever felt normal and thank you Annelie for sorting my hair out and for the lovely conversations. The best thing to happen to Brick Lane!
