On International Women's Day we're celebrating Lady Mary Heath, a woman who pushed the boundaries of convention to open opportunities for women. She set athletic records in javelin throw and high jump and lobbied for women's right to compete in Olympics, successfully lobbied for women's right to earn wages as a pilot, became the first woman in UK to gain commercial pilot license first woman to fly from Cape Town To London 1928. Like most people, I had no real understanding of the magnitude and complexity of the issue of domestic violence and the murder of women in our society. But, you can’t hide from the facts once someone has shown them to you.
I am honoured to share the courageous and honest voices of family members of women whose life story was truncated by violence.
... If we can, as Julie the mother of a murdered daughter said, not only listen to, but hear the voices of these women then I think we will be taking an important step forward.
