About Old Spitalfields Market

An eclectic mix of cutting-edge shops, exceptional restaurants and unique traders where the City meets London's creative east end.

Old Spitalfields Market Description

Old Spitalfields Market is the original East London.

Open 7 days a week, it is the perfect antidote to the high street. We bring together small producers with local creatives and artisans, original independent retailers and a few well-known brands under one historic roof.

Our daily market is home to a selection of carefully chosen traders, craftsmen, artists and artisans alike, picked for the quality of their product, and the stories they have to tell.

In the centre of the market floor you will find 'The Kitchens' showcasing exceptional contemporary and authentic cooking. We are proud to offer new levels of quality and variety in the dishes prepared by our chefs and operators at this highly accessible and truly unique all-day dining experience.

A statement from We Love Food, the organisers of this weekend's planned We Love Vegan Festival and the following weekend's We Love Cocktails and Canapés Festival. Both events have been postponed:
"Hi everyone.
It's with a heavy heart that we have had to postpone this week's We Love Vegan Food Festival.
... We’re a small team of passionate foodies, the demand of the festivals has been so large that for a first year project we have encountered a number of operational issues that we feel will significantly limit the quality of the event.
On top of this some factors that are sadly out of our control have also contributed. To confirm, the festival will no longer be taking place on Friday and Saturday at Old Spitalfields Market.
This really is devastating for us, but we believe this is the right decision to deliver the best possible experience for you.
A new date will be announced as soon as possible and we will be in touch with all current ticket holders individually this week with an update. All tickets will be refunded automatically over the next 48 hours.
In the meantime, we will continue to promote Vegan restaurants, traders and events in London and across the UK. Thanks for all of your support!"

Visited from the US. Really enjoyed the variety of products and the food vendors. It was unusually hot but the market was very nice inside and some great businesses to visit just on the outside of the market.

User

User

User

Completely revamped with both traditional & modern themes vey interesting place to visit and their is a wide choice of food available as well.

All in all a very pleasant experience.

User

AMAZING!! I was so upset to see so much fur being sold in your market that I thought I’d never return. I asked one trader what fur he was selling and that is was very cruel to sell real fur, he became aggressive, highly disrespectful and rude to me..really scary, I made a complaint about him and the sale of real fur in your market, so am so happy to see you have made the compassionate choice not to allow fur to be sold from January 2018. Thank you!!

User

You could eat your way around the world with all the food stalls. I recommend YumBun! Lots of atmosphere and some interesting stalls to browse too.

User

It’s becoming a little more food related but still a good vibe & feeling to it. I’m surprised people are still even interested in crap festival clothes. In reality it’s become very reporishiius as you move round. There are the usual suspects attempting to pawn stuff off for crazy price for example I saw a picture of a chimpanzee wearing headphones 🎧 I bought the same picture on Wish last week all the way from China for under a fiver. The exact same picture was on sale on one of the stalls admittedly in a frame but come on £300 do they think we came down with the last showers of rain.

User

Good vibes. But there seems to be a number of stalls who doesn’t like photos taken? Why? Possibly because they infringed someone else’s copyright. I doubt for example a couple of stalls selling small prints of David Bowie by the late Brian Duffy are licensed. Would love to see more handmade stalls.

User

I was there at about 10:15am, very disappointing as hardly any stalls were up and running. Borough market is better, they open bright and early.

User

Spitalfields Thursday ‘junk/antiques/vintage’ market has been ruined. Now, instead of higgledy-piggeldy stalls, brimming with bargains and vintage ephemera, there are many more permanent food stalls and fewer sterile, shuttered, stalls selling antiques. Well done Spitalfields, following the same sanitised path as Camden and squeezing the life out of something that didn’t need fixing.

User

So disappointed will not be bothering to come back loved Thursdays at the market went for the vintage and antiques stalls not for a food market. 2 years ago would have given 5 stars such a shame

User

Replacing stalls selling goods with yet more food, they treat stallholders like dirt, come the spring 2018 it will prob be all food and the existing stallholders forced out replaced by something more corporate.... used to be a great market with over 240 stalls now down to 70.... and l guess the antique market on thursdays will also vanish come spring 2018 when the second stage of the market revamp is completed.

User

Recently I visited Old Spitalfields Market and was disgusted to see so many stalls selling the real fur of animals who were either skinned alive, anally electrocuted or had their necks manually snapped. After speaking to the market manager, I agreed to send a complaint via Email, and was given the impression that it would be taken seriously.

This was a couple of weeks ago, and since then up to 100 people have sent Emails complaining about the sale of these real fur products, and there hasn't been any kind of acknowledgement from anyone involved in the market. This is extremely disappointing, and I'd like an explanation as to what is going on.

User

Real fur! How is this acceptable by anyone in this century? These animals don't die if natural causes, they are skinned ALIVE and tortured. And if you're thinking you don't care about foxes etc that's probably a thought in vain as half the time it is DOG fur, often stolen pets. In another note after expressing my feelings to management of the market they don't even have the decency to respond to me. Disgusting.

User

I would give 0 stars but that's not an option. Please keep up with the times - it's 2017! How many people honestly agree with wearing real fur, ripped off the backs of innocent animals, in 2017? We are well aware of how atrocious fur farms are. All the animals used, have the ability to experience fear, loneliness, sadness, physical pain, and like us, they want to live long, happy, healthy lives. But instead, they are confined in small, cold, dark spaces for their entire lives, only to be brutally killed, in a quick easy, profitable way! No consideration for the animals' feelings! Please take this into consideration and stop using real fur. Use fake fur instead! It looks better! And animals won't be tortured as a result! Also, you will get more customers, as most people, today, are aware of, and against the fur industry! Therefore, you will get more positive reviews, too!

User

I am not happy that you are allowing the sale of fur and when I wrote to you to express my opinion you did not even have the courtesy to answer. So I will not be visiting or recommending your market
