Ding® (Ding Labs Limited) is a connected product startup that is revolutionising the doorbell market with its Smart Doorbell that connects your home with your phone.
Doorbells are terrible. The front door experience is something that is taken for granted but has not been considered for many years. The doorbell is a product which has been cost optimised around its most basic function, but has not evolved to suit the needs of modern people or modern homes. It is not just that current doorbells on the market look bad, sound bad or that they’re unreliable, but people’s habits have also changed. People are more dependant on their mobile devices now than they have ever been and it is common for a visitor to call the occupier to reach them, because they are more likely to hear their phone than their doorbell.
Missing a visitor is not just an inconvenience for the occupier, there is a huge cost to delivery companies. To take one example, every year 12% of Royal Mail deliveries fail first time, costing the company £1 billion in re-deliveries, a figure which is growing every year with the increasing number of online purchases. This also equates to a huge amount of time that is wasted queuing at collection offices or arranging re-deliveries for the customer, in excess of 270 million hours in the UK on Royal Mail deliveries alone.

Our solution is the Ding Smart Doorbell. The Smart Doorbell is made up of two parts, the first is a subtle doorbell button that sits near your door, which houses a microphone and speaker, the second is an elegant doorbell chime that sits in the home. The chime takes the best characteristic of traditional doorbells, a physical bell, which alerts you wherever you may be in your home. It also extends this alert to your phone allowing you to talk with the person at your front door from wherever you are in the world.
