About People'S Park Tavern

Beer garden, boozer and brewery in the heart of Victoria Park.

People'S Park Tavern Description

A village pub & brewery in the city, with a huge garden which forms one tip of Victoria Park.

Since it opened in 1845, Victoria Park has also been well known as the People’s Park, created as it was for the ordinary people of the East End, many of whom had never seen such a wide open and beautiful green space before. The People’s Park later became a venue for all kinds of public meetings and demonstrations of freedom of expression, which is the inspiration for our name.

Serving hearty, traditional pub food as well as a range of 'People's Pies' and Sunday roasts, whole roast chickens are also available for groups who want to share. There are open mic events, scratch theatre performances, improv comedy, jam sessions, live art creation and more upstairs in our 'Scratch Theatre'.

We went to the park tavern because we had booked the escape room (which was really good fun even tho we were rubbish!) and we have fallen in love with this pub

Great atmosphere friendly staff huge garden lots of seating. Food looked good but we were eating later elsewhere. We live a fair journey away but decided we would def visit again.

User

Thank you so much to the gorgeous Bobby for being an absolute star and for providing amazing service! X

Great location, Awesome beer garden (they even have a mini golf..), lovely staff, wicked tunes, live bands and Djs, pub quiz and comedy !! They have a massive drink selection and even brew their own beers (Twisted lips is my personal favourite, you should give it a try...) I could go on and on about it and about all the other great stuffs they have or do but the best is to recommend you to check it out by yourself !! My personal favourite bar in London and I've been living here for a while.... 'nough said

User

Very nice place, great music and service. was going for a catch up with friends before Christmas 🎄, but the music was to load and we couldn’t hear each other, but it was a Saturday night so what can I moan about overall loved it

User

Great pub. Spacious, funky decor, wooden benches, large domestic and international craft beer selection, plus an in house brewery. Also received an exceptional level of advice and selection of tasters from a lovely bar maid with purple hair. Cheers to her! Didn't eat here because of high prices but otherwise really enjoyed my visit today. Four out of five.

User

Well, I’m an original East Ender, Hackney born and bread, where have they all gone I ask? Didn’t know a sole and the ole atmosphere just wasn’t there

User

The place looks amazing and has plenty of space both inside and outside. There was a good 2 for 1 burgers, but burgers were not worth 13 quid each. The superfood one was a quinoa patty with guacamole but not really tasty. The goat cheese one was delicious but still there wasn't so much food to make it worth so much money. I'd go again on a monday, not on a day have to pay full price, sorry!

User

No kids menu!

Burger £15.50.

Almost empty while we here at 5pm

Doesn’t take much to work out why nobody brings family in for early post school dinner.

It’s a bit arrogant to blatantly ignore an important local catchment.

User

Nice pub . We were there for the England game . Only issue we had there was no sound on the T.V or screen which frankly spoilt the experience. To make matters worse we had someone with us that is partially sighted so commentary is essential .

User

Hi,

I visited yesterday afternoon and bought a round of drinks and was overcharged. The price of the wine was cheaper on the menu than on the till. I told the bartender and he said he can't change it on the till (as he's new) so he went to get another colleague. The lady who came was so dismissive and rude! She said its not our fault and there's nothing we can do. No apologies, no offer to rectify the price and a really bad attitude. This makes it seem like you were aware of the false advertising!!! I don't really care about the actual price difference but it makes me wonder how many items on your menus are stated as the wrong price and how many people don't realise they're being over charged!

User

Good pub and beer garden for catching up...no TVs outside so not really for sporting events.

Also Beware of Bike thieves- I tied my bike to the railings in daylight hours and the lock was cut and it was stolen in broad daylight on a Sunday-just a word of warning..take precautions always

User

Visited my sister last night, as she lives yards away decided to pop in the ppt for a drink and a burger, when we ordered the drinks were told they did not have port shocked by this as it is a pub I questioned whether they were sure that they did not have any, it was then the member of staff mimicked my strong east end accent in a very derogatory manner then walked away still not answering my question, it made us feel totally unwelcome in a so called tavern in the area where we were born and bred. People like him should know that if you run a pub in Hackney that real people from Hackney are not stupid or thick skinned. It may be the people's park but this is definitely not the people's pub. I worked a lot of years in the retail trade and would never treat a customer in this manner. I have to say the other barman was a lot more helpful and said they would get some port for next time.......not hard to be pleasent is it.

User

pretty bad experience. very busy long queues for toilets so coupla girls in mens toulets waiting for cubicles. extremely aggressive large male claiming to be " i'm chef here " intimidates girls to the extent they have to leave.then he attempts to intimidate guys who stand up for girls right to pee. very very poor. do not go here.

User

Went to order and told food wax ordered outside. Got red wine, and then went to or Oder food, but they didn't have the right food, so we got the wrong drink.

We waited over an hour for food, then given the wrong order, chicken burger instead of chicken Caesar salad . When it finally came, no Parmesan no croutons and no dressing. Short ribs not cooked enough, the knives couldn't cut it, it should have fallen off the bone...

Bloody disappointing

User

They served the food 2 hours too early before all our party had arrived. Starters came out like theyd been sat on the pass for the whole time. The toast was stale and very hard to bite into. The mains were okay at best. Everything was bland and poorly cooked. Beef had some kind of chinese sauce and the trimmings were tasteless. Asked to use same cutlery for starter and main.

On the up side, if you look past the very slow bar, the atmosphere was great and the music was spot on!

Food awful!

User

No children in the beer garden at weekends? Kids not allowed to play crazy golf because it is an "adults game".. really? I've never heard anything so ridiculous. I used to really like coming to this pub as it had a family friendly atmosphere.. I won't be coming again.. thank you for ruining a great pub..

User

My brother booked a table of 9 and a buggy space for Saturday 22nd July for his wife's 30th birthday. On the phone they never specified if it would be inside or outside. 3 of the party arrived early only to find that we had been given an outside table in the rain. We called them to ask if we could be moved to the inside as we had a new born baby with us. We explained that we were never given an option of inside or outside. The person on the other end of the phone was unhelpful and told us there was nothing they could do. So not only did you lose out on the custom over the weekend you will also lose out on future custom from our family. Thankfully TGI in Westfields were alot more understanding and couldn't do enough for us. However, 2 of our party missed out of the celebrations as they were unable to make it to Westfields from your establishment.

User

Monday lunch, not busy, so asked if they were serving lunch. Yes, so I ordered 8oz scotch beef burger, w/ Red pepper relish, Baby gem, Beef tomato, American cheese, Fried onion & skin-on fries. £15.50 ...sounded good substantial meal. Long wait, but no problem, nice surrounding and beer. But meal was quite small and not as described. Normal frozen thin fries, no fried onion, cheese slice may have been american, slice of big tomato, no gem lettuce, just little pieces iceburg, reliish and burger were ok , if small, inside a toated bun. Dogs loved it.

Spoke to duty manager, who was very defensive, bordering on rude. I was told all the ingredients listed were in meal and that the fries were labelled "skinon" . The manager brought me some extra relish and offered to get some fried onion, but seemed to think it was already in the relish. I declined and unusually decided to do this review, mostly because of managers appalling handling of my complaint, Normally just vote with feet.

Sad, this pub used to be a nice dog friendly pub that served a lovely whole chicken for sunday lunch ( thats stopped now, but thats another story... that I just voted with feet)

User

Me and my friend ate the chicken at the outdoors BBQ, early the next day we definitely regretted it!! Severe diarrhoea for over 24hrs!!! Resulted in missed day at work.

I have repeatedly tried to contact the manager to inform them and request they review their food storage techniques (so many flies hanging around, no idea if any of the food is covered pre/post cooking), they have not been in touch.

Shame because I have eaten here before and it was good. Poor hygiene and poor customer service!

People like him should know that if you run a pub in Hackney that real people from Hackney are not stupid or thick skinned. It may be the people's park but this is definitely not the people's pub. I worked a lot of years in the retail trade and would never treat a customer in this manner. I have to say the other barman was a lot more helpful and said they would get some port for next time.......not hard to be pleasent is it.

pretty bad experience. very busy long queues for toilets so coupla girls in mens toulets waiting for cubicles. extremely aggressive large male claiming to be " i'm chef here " intimidates girls to the extent they have to leave.then he attempts to intimidate guys who stand up for girls right to pee. very very poor. do not go here.

They served the food 2 hours too early before all our party had arrived. Starters came out like theyd been sat on the pass for the whole time. The toast was stale and very hard to bite into. The mains were okay at best. Everything was bland and poorly cooked. Beef had some kind of chinese sauce and the trimmings were tasteless. Asked to use same cutlery for starter and main.

On the up side, if you look past the very slow bar, the atmosphere was great and the music was spot on!

Food awful!
