How to do long runs 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ And if this is your first Marathon, you may feel more than a little intimidated by the prospect of going out on your long runs.We take a look at some simple dos and donts, and help you make those runs as pain-free and productive as they possibly can be.
1️⃣ The biggest single mistake, especially for first-time marathoners, is running the long training runs too fast. The purpose of the runs is for the physical adaptations they create in the body. ...2️⃣ You need to take the nutrition seriously and follow similar nutritional routines that you will use for the main event. 3️⃣You need to take on board plenty of fuel, warm up, prepare your route; and most importantly, recover from the run. 4️⃣To help release your anxiety focus on your breathing. 5️⃣ If you are unsure, take the less physically demanding option and keep your long run shorter. 6️⃣ A Sports massage before and after a long run will help you. Knee injuries from running‼️ Running can be beneficial in so many ways. It is not only a good form of aerobic exercise, but it is also good for mental health as it is a great stress reliever. But the real reason so many runners get knee injuries, especially chronic injuries, is through lack of knowledge.
How to minimise knee injuries from running❓ • You need to make sure you have the right equipment. Proper running shoes and proper running socks are essential.
... • Don’t pick up your knees when you run. If you pick up your knees, your lower leg swings forward and your heel will come down in front of your body. As such, you’ll be putting the brakes on as your foot hits the ground.
• Don’t overdo it. If you want to run further or faster do slow in very small increments.
• Learn how to stretch properly.
• A qualified physiotherapist can help to work on the underlying structure of your body to help reduce the risk of knee injuries. Book Now! (Link in bio👆)

The World Health Organisation recommends that adults consume less than 5 g (just under a teaspoon) of salt per day. Take note though, that recommendation is for most of the normal population including those with or without high blood pressure. But the recommendation may not apply to some people. For example, those undergoing treatment or with particular illnesses that lower sodium levels might need tailored quantities.
What problems does excess sodium cause❓ The single bigge...st concern with excess sodium is the impact on the heart. Too much salt in your diet can lead to: - Elevated blood pressure - Increase your risk of heart disease and strokes. - Retain too much water in your body. this can put added demands on your heart, arteries, kidneys and brain.
Cutting down on salt❗
The quickest way to reduce your salt and sodium intake is by reducing or eliminating your consumption of processed foods. Yet again, it is a reminder that natural and whole foods are far more beneficial for your health.

Today we continue with our #Marathontips before race day‼️ - Tip 4️⃣: Learn the lyrics to a new song
This one is highly unusual but serves a purpose. Even a couple of verses will do. The idea is to give yourself something to distract you when the going gets tough. Singing to yourself (silently) at miles 22 or 23 could be a novel idea for getting you over the hump.
... Tip 5️⃣: Schedule in some massage
Modern athletes spend a lot of time on the therapy table. There is a reason for this. A massage is a wonderful form of rehabilitation from strenuous exercise. Your body has taken a hammering during your training. You need to replenish the muscles as much as possible before you reach the start line.
So book up some restorative sessions now before the rush starts.

#MarathonTips: Purchases before race day‼️
Tip 1️⃣: Invest in a hydration belt
You will know by now that hydration is a huge part of running. With a hydration belt, you are in control. And it gives you somewhere convenient to store your energy gels. It will also come in handy for your remaining long runs.... Hydration belts are very lightweight, and the good ones are very comfortable.
Tip 2️⃣: Buy some Vaseline You might be surprised what might irritate you when running the marathon. If it is hot, you’ll want to keep the sweat out of your eyes. Simply by applying a little Vaseline above the line of the eyebrows, the sweat from your forehead will stay out of your eyes. (Vaseline can also be used to avoid jogger’s nipple).
Tip 3️⃣: Buy some tape. On the other hand, if it is windy on race day, some tape can be very useful. A pinned race number will flap around and annoy you. Simply by taping your running number to your running vest, you can avoid that distraction. - 📷 Photo credit: @londonmarathon

Yaneth is such an amazing physiotherapist. She's knowledgeable and works my nots and sore neck and shoulders amazingly. My only complain is not having found this clinic before! I'm nearly on my third session now, and my partner is now also getting a session tomorrow following my recommendation. I think that says a lot :)

User

Went for a sports massage after an injury in the gym. Worked well for pain relief and aided my healing

User

Really enjoying my group Pilates class with Han in Islington.

She gets us in all sorts of positions and I always feel taller after!

Just bought another special offer pack online at the fantastic Perea Clinic.

I suffer from chronic back pain for periods of time (flare ups) due to a spine issue which affects my left side badly. Particularly lower / middle back pain, glutes, sciatic pain, trapped nerves & knots.

After a long search I found Perea, I haven't looked back - I recommend them to all my family & friends.

I give special recommendation to Kush & Christos - I tell people they both have magic hands.

I have Kush for Osteopathic treatment. She's brilliant at manipulating my back into the position it should be in.

I have Christos for Chronic Tension treatment. He's amazing, strong strong hands to work those knots out. Deep tissue, neck / shoulders etc. Just great.

Both therapists off other treatments than I have mentioned.

Both leave notes on Perea's online system for each other to read & they talk to each other about my pain, how best to handle it.

I have multiple treatments as & when I need them & have learned that it not sensible to think you can sort an issue out in just a couple of treatments.

My back has taken 25 years to get slowly slowly bad, it isn't going to fixed in a couple of sessions it it :-) Patients / users have to be sensible about they I think ...

It's been so wonderful actually to find an organisation that has all the treatments I need & therapists that coordinate with each other to give best combination treatment possible.

Yaneth is the owner / manager. I like the way she runs things, any problems just zip her an email & it's sorted out.

Great organisation, I hope to be with them for the foreseeable future. Can't recommend them enough really.

John Ahearne.

User

I've been to the Perea Clinic 6 or 7 times now, and it's the best therapeutic massage I've had in years. Yaneth and Mo (the 2 clinicians I've seen) are both fantastic, and I can't rate them highly enough! My posture is dramatically improved after each session, and my whole body just feels better.

User

I've been recommended Yaneth from my osteopathy and never been disappointed. I had two session, Deep tissue massage with Yaneth, which helped to release the tension at my neck and back massively. She's very knowledgable. I highly recommend this clinic!

User

I was treated by Dave, who was extremely professional at all times. He listened to me and understood my neck problem, and he explained everything he was doing so that I could feel comfortable and reassured. He made sure I understood the logic behind what he was doing, and I could feel the tension disappearing right away after only one session. I am going back next week and would recommend the clinic to everyone. Thanks David!!

User

The Perea clinic has a very kind and helpful staff, I would recommend 200%!

User

I found out about the Perea clinic through a friend after running the London Marathon. I decided to book in a sports massage and i couldn't recommend them enough, Virgnie was extremely friendly and the massage was great, she was a complete professional and knew exactly what she was doing focusing on all tensions and stress in my legs caused by the Marathon.

User

Excellent treatment and facilities, highly recommend Virginie. My back and neck are so much better now, will be back!

Christos was great and completely healed my back after a sports injury. He was also incredibly helpful at releasing tension in the rest of my back and neck that I didn't even know was there! Would definitely highly recommend to others.

User

Christos is fantastic! Wealth of knowledge combined with willingness to share his expertise work wonders! Not relaxing, as I have many problems in my backs, but once the treatment is over I felt so much better. Will definitely book again.

User

Christos has helped me so much with pain in my upper back and neck. Very skilled at relieving the pain and offering ongoing support by way of stretches and posture guidance to hopefully stop the problem recurring !!

Best proper massage possibly ever! Sorted out all my minor muscle problems. I'm coming back!

User

Amazing!!! I have been to Yaneth over the last 3 or 4 months. She literally is amazing. Recently I had a trapped nerve in my neck/upper back - Yaneth has sorted it - even when a physio was unable to help. She knows so much and tailors each appointment to accommodate what you need and you immediately feel the benefit. I have had many massage therapists over the years. Yaneth is the best by far. Highly recommended. I also have reflexology after the massage. I cannot rate it highly enough.. The most relaxing experience ever. Thanks Yaneth!
