Spotted at London's Victoria and Albert Museum: Piña Handkerchief, 1840-1900
Cloth meticulously woven and embroidered from pineapple fibre was fashionable and much-coveted in Europe's centres of fashion, especially in Britain and France. Piña, as it is known in the Philippines and batiste d'ananas in France, was deired for its delicate and transparent sheen, and for the remarkable artistry in its embroidery.
The Philippines exhibited samples of piña for export at the 1851 Gr...eat Exhibition in London.
View this piece at the V&A's Fashioned from Nature exhibit.

Sublian sa Batangas Batangas, Philippines
Every 23 July, Batangas comes alive during Sublian sa Batangas or the Sublian Festival where thousands of Batangueños gather to march and dance the subli, a dance indigenous to the province of Batangas.
... The subli, a ceremonial worship dance, is presented in honor of the Holy Cross. It is said that the image of Holy Cross was found in Alitagtag when the Philippines was under Spanish colonial rule.

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Apolinario Mabini, the Philippines' first foreign minister.
Mabini is regarded as one of the Philippines' most brilliant minds. Two of his works, El Verdadero Decalogo (24 June 1898) and Programa Constitucional dela Republica Filipina (1989) were instrumental in drafting the Malolos Constitution, which was the basic law of the First Philippine Republic.

Halo halo is a delicious and refreshing mess of a dessert with as many tions as there are islands in the Philippines. No summer is complete without halo halo so we thought we'd share this cheat sheet with you.
Tell us your fave Filipino restaurant in London that's serving the cup of halo halo by leaving a below :)

The Philippine Embassy in London joins the international community in celebrating the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, who was a staunch advocate for human rights, dignity, and freedom.
Nelson Mandela went on an official state visit to the Philippines in 1997. In the Malacañang guest book, Mandela wrote: “Visiting the Republic of the Philippines is the fulfillment of a long and cherished dream. An unforgettable experience.”
