User

I like their food I have been going since the day it opened , sometimes you have a hiccup and they sort it and apologise .i have seen the assistant manager helping out carving and serving on the tables which is not what you would normally get in a foodery ,it’s never been bad and the food is cheap and good quality compared to other pub gastros I have eaten with multi chain outlets .

User

Have been many times and always great service. My son's birthday is Saturday and we have booked to come here. His choice because he prefers it to another big name restaurant . Of.course he is correct

User

Had our first visit here today. Absolutely loved it. We all decided on the carvery option and wasn’t sorry. The meats were impeccable and the vegetable selection was endless. From the moment we went in we were impressed with the staff. Very organised in what they do. Food was amazing and excellent value for money. Well done Pipe Major, you did yourselves proud

User

Chicken was warm not hot, chips tasted of old potatoes, Kale-slaw was ok. Chicken goujons were over cooked and side salad was wilted.

We usually have the roast carvery so this was the 1st time ordering off of the limited menu.

Carvery has always been really nice on previous visits.

A little stingy on the ice cream scoop that goes with the brownie. Bar staff were well mannered and welcoming. Outside kids area was clean and well maintained.

User

Booked a table for 15 people asked if i could do a birthday cake in there aswell my call was dealt in a professional manner , arrived on Saturday put our table in great section near door which was open , had a great service , food was lovely and the staff were great when bring the birthday cake out to my daughter , I think the only complaint I have is that inside was very very hot would been nice put air con in for hot weather , thankyou

After a long day visiting a family member in a hospice my partner and I ended up in Pipe Major last night. It was extremely busy due to boxing day bookings and we were fortunate to be welcomed by very accomodating staff and management who were able to find us a table at short notice. Having not eaten since the morning we were immensely grateful and enjoyed a fantastic carvery. - Would highly recommend

A few weeks ago (3/5/18) I took my 86 year old nan for lunch. The place was in absolute chaos. There was an hour wait for food. It was very busy. As a diabetic my nan would need food sooner. After speaking to Tyrone the manager he had her food delivered to my nan in just 15 minuets. I had a carvery, as I always do and the food was yummy, as always. Thank you Tyrone, and all the staff.

User

Went there today food really good staff was running about chasing each other not all staff was a bit taken a back think pipe major needs to get more cleaning products so the staff don't have to chase each other

User

We thought we’d try somewhere new! It was lovely food and we got a table quickly even though we hadn’t booked. The menu had many choices all at a good price. It was a shame our sides didn’t arrive till we’d finished but they gave us a refund straight away. It took a while for desserts to arrive, but on the whole a very nice place, will definitely be going again.

User

Staff were good when a group of 15 turned up. Here's a suggestion if you don't take bookings make a note in your diary that 15 are coming in one group. Also another suggestion how about some air conditioning

User

After our last family visit, 8 months earlier (6 of us), including two children, we were asked by staff to hurry up, as other people were waiting to be seated.

We waited a long time for our meals, and the two children were still eating there afters at that stage.

We felt very embarrased and annoyed, and my son wanted to take it further, but I told him to leave it.

This time, I visited, not by choice, with another son, and his family, as we had been to the local Dagenham & Redbridge v Leyton Orient, and he did not know about the previous issues, and we sat and enjoyed the meal without being harassed.

Would I go again, we will see?

User

Ive always drove past and thought it looked like a lovely pub from outside and thought I'd visit one day,

From my own personal experience yesterday,

1st impressions were good, plenty of parking spaces available, served at the bar within 5mins of arrival, and even showed to our table before our other party members arrived, I'm afraid to say it went down hill from there...

We were lucky that a few members of our party couldn't make it as it was a lovely large table but there were no chairs unless you sat head and tail of the table, everyone else had to share benches (3 to a bench) definitely not possible, 2 comfortably maybe or there was an odd stall here and there, most people put their coats on the back of their chairs but this wasn't possible no coat hooks available either,

Then came the menus- they looked like it had been designed by a school child, & Carvery prices were not on the menu, Food had to be ordered at the bar - which made me wonder is this a pub or restaurant as there was no waiter/waitress service, we ordered our food then took our seats, we wasnt told or shown where the carvery was, so we wondered and had a look ourselves, we had to wait for a chef to come and serve us, he didnt seem happy in his work,

On the up side there were hot plates put on trays to put the food on, 3 meats (Gammon Turkey & Beef) a good range of vegetables, only disappointing part were the roast potatoes as they had a foul taste to them, I could have cooked better myself,

Once we'd finished our meals as I said there were no waiters/waitresses to clear the tables, we had to clear the table ourselves, my uncle took the plates to the bar,

We then ordered desserts which didnt all come out at once, 3 at first, then 2 (when the 1st 3 were half way through) leaving 5 of us waiting for a good 20mins before we got ours which we had to remind them we were waiting, plus the coffee ordered for my nan apparently sat on the bar for 20mins before we complained it hadnt arrived only to be told by bar bar staff that we'd left it on the bar, thankfully they made another one fresh and brought it over to my 92 yr old nan, then a different member of staff 10mins later brought the 1st one that had been sitting on the bar - REALLY??? Do these staff not communicate?!?!

I'm Sorry but I definitely will not be returning after this very poor service

Staff and management need to get their act together!!!

User

Wouldn’t eat here again as the food is way under par. 53% of the staff are doing a decent job but when u get a manager that is rarely on the shop floor it says a lot for the establishment. Food portions are irregular eg kids meals get more chips then main menu and so on, food comes out at different times even though all ordered at once. Wouldn’t eat here unless it changes and just pop in for the occasional drink but even that’s a joke as too few seats unless u wanna be sat in the draught.

User

Went yesterday for lunch wasn't told we would have to wait so expecting to wait maybe half hour but waited 50 mins to get what I didn't ask for and then when I took it back to be told I'd have to wait again😩 So got my money back went home to have a pack of crisps, I know it's going to be busy on a hot and would expected to wait a little while but that was a joke, I do feel sorry for the staff as it's not there fault so come on pipe major for the sake of the poor staff please get more then everyone will be happy

User

What an absolute nightmare! Went last night for a family meal for my dads birthday. Absolutely heaving. Only two bar staff actually serving. Waited ages to get served for drinks. Went to order food and half of the menu out of stock, so was running back and forth to table for alternatives. No vegetarian choices available, was told to have carvery with no meat! Was then told an hours wait for food.

An hour later whilst still waiting for our starters, a waitress came up and told us that our vegetarian needed to go and get her carvery as they were going to shut the carvery. The waitress did say you might want to come and have a look anyway. All that was left on the carvery was chicken roast potato and cauliflower!! The waitress then said there was a veggie risotto on offer, so opted for that after being told earlier it wasn’t available.

Our starters turned up, but then waited another hour for our main courses, which on the whole were ok. The peri peri chicken burger only had a tiny strip of chicken which I believe should have been three.

My mother asked to see the manager to make a complaint and was confronted by a female duty manager with an attitude problem, quite frankly. My mother was polite and informed that she was going to make an official complaint and just wanted to let her know and advice her of the issues . The duty manager was very animated and said basically it was tough and couldn’t be helped as they had a food delivery but it was out of date! She was very aggressive in her tone and my mother came back physically shaken and very upset.

Understandably we would never return to this restaurant, and will be advising our friends likewise.

I can see why you have to pay up front for your food, no one would ever pay if they received the service we did last night.

In addition we were not the only table dissatisfied.

Today me and 4 work colleagues went to the Pipe

Major for our lunch break as we had done on many occasions. There was nobody at the door to seat us so we found our own table. We went straight to the bar to order as we were only having sandwiches and nachos. We asked how long the wait for food would be as we only had an hour break. We were told by a young lad that he had no idea how long the wait would be. We ordered at 12.50 and by 1.10 there was still no lunch. We asked the manger and he assured us it would only be 5 more minutes. In the mean time a large table behind us were complaining as they had been waiting for ages and when their food finally came it was all cold. We finally waited until 1.30 (our lunch break was now officially over). We went to the kitchen and waited for the manger, in the end when he didn’t come out my friend had to knock on the door and ask him for a refund. He came out and his whole attitude was very rude. He started to give us a refund as a whole, we explained that we needed it separately refunded as we had paid separately. My friends all had their receipts but I hadn’t been given my at the till. I told him how much I’d paid to which he then questioned me ‘what could you possibly of had that was £11?’ I told him what I’d had and he then handed me my £11.75 back. He was so miserable and rude throughout the whole thing. At the end I asked ‘is that it, no apology?’ To which he replied NOPE!! The whole afternoon was just awful we went back to work starving as we’d now had no lunch, I can safely say we will not be returning again!!!!

Avoid this place.terrible service.we ordered a starter and main that both came together and around an 1 hour after we had ordered!then practically got it thrown at us!!awful
