Plankton Records Description
Since 1978 we have been one of the UK’s few independent grassroots Christian based record labels and we are probably now one of, if not the, oldest!
We have over 75 releases under our belts and we have always aimed to offer a platform to artists whose music has something to say about the world we live in and the human condition. Justice, truth, love, faith, God, war, peace, equality and freedom are among the subjects covered in the works of our artists, regardless of their musical genre. Our releases feature rock, reggae, world, african, celtic, gospel, soul, metal, progressive and even satirical music to stir and stimulate the heart, mind and soul, as well as entertain.

On my way home after a short break it was good to call in on my old friend and mastering engineer extraordinaire Nigel Palmer of Lowland Masters Nigel’s been part of our history longer than me (Keith) as he was engineering and producing our releases from the early 1980s. While we are totally involved in and with the music created by 9BEATS COLLECTIVE partnering with them on the brilliant 'Nine Beats to the Bar' album and several singles, the whole Nine Beats has grown and is still growing into books and studies like the excellent Ninefold Path Learning Lab group guides and notebook and there's also a whole series of excellent videos that inspire and challenge at the same time. Quoting the festival website: "The Wild Goose is a transformational community grounded in faith-inspired social justice. When we come together for the nationwide festival we learn and grow by co-creating art, music, story, theatre, and spectacle, engaging in a wide variety of robust, respectful conversations with each other and with thought leaders and artists from other communities. We refu...se to be enemies with anyone. We are hospitable to all and welcome people of all faiths, and no faith, to seek the common good together." Nine Beats Collective are currently due to play the MainStage at 8pm on Friday 12th July and on Saturday 13th they are playing both, the River venue at 3pm and the Cafe venue at 11pm. Our good friend and 9BEATS COLLECTIVE member Heatherlyn Music is releasing her first solo studio recordings since her "Storydwelling" album in 2011. The BEING BREATHED EP is a stunning and beautiful 3 song collection, all written by Heatherlyn and produced by another friend and talented musician Ben Grace Worldwide digital release is TUESDAY JULY 9th and it will be available on all major digital music download & streaming sites Worldwide. (It's not a Plankton Records release but we want to support our friend!)
Back in time to the 1985 Greenbelt Festival when we were totally involved in running the fringe and our shop/service the Musician's Advice Tent. The year we undertook the then (pre-digital & computer) epic task of recording the live performances on the main Fringe stage each day and then overnight editing together a cassette master, running off cassette copies, printing up the cover art with correct track listing, making up the cassettes and then having them on sale on site t...he next day (taking orders for Monday night's recordings). Here's some pics of the tape and some excerpts from the official Greenbelt 85 programme - front cover, double page Fringe section (includes a mention of the tapes at the bottom and a pic of the much-loved Griff Pilchard) and the site map.
