Today we will be showing some #WorkInProgress images of Francois Chartier’s new painting ‘And… Away We Go’.
Before starting any painting, Chartier makes his canvases smooth by adding gesso and sanding, and once dry, adds some colour to it (usually 50% grey). He then traces the canvas using graphite paper, guided by a full size image for accurate reference.
On image number 1, Chartier starts painting one of the tires before figuring out what to paint next. Image number 2 is a ...‘Grisaille’ painted with red, brown and white which will add some transparency and glossiness to the subject once the artist paints yellow over the ‘Grisaille’ (image number 3). We can than see a detailed work in progress of the background and reflections on images 4 and 5.
