Podiatry Careers

About Podiatry Careers

Podiatry Careers is a project set up by the College of Podiatry in the UK to raise awareness and understanding of what Podiatry can offer as a career.

Podiatry Careers Description

We want to help people who are looking to make either a career transition or a first career choice understand Podiatry and what it can offer as a career.

Podiatry is often misunderstood, with very few people fully understanding the scope of clinical practice, the career progression or the areas of specialisms you can work in.

Working in you own business or as an associate in someone else's, private practice offers a huge range of clinical areas of practice not to mention huge flexibility and the opportunity to dictate your own income.
NHS employment provides a clearly structured career pathway with the opportunity to work in a community or hospital environment.
There is also the option to work in higher education, research, industry o the commercial sector, making it one of the most flexible healthcare professions on offer.

The Strategic Interventions in Health Education Disciplines (SIHED) programme is a three-year initiative to help raise awareness of allied health disciplines, and in particular strengthen the sustainability of four smaller professions: podiatry, therapeutic radiography, prosthetics and orthotics, and orthoptics. https://www.iseethedifference.co.uk/podia try/

Shadowing fuelled my ambition to be a podiatrist. To gain some insight into podiatry, I shadowed podiatrist and clinical director Emma Price of Supafoot in Cheltenham. Emma’s professional approach and friendly nature captivated me. I experienced the typical working day in the life of a podiatrist. This experience expanded my basic knowledge through the different scenarios and treatments that she adapted to suit specific patients.
Thanks to Supafoot Cheltenham for welcoming prospective students https://www.careersinpodiatry.com/shadowi ng-fuelled-my-amb…/

'Step it up' in September to show support for Vascular disease. Vascular disease is the collective term for diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatics. Every part of the body to which blood flows can be affected by it. It’s as common as cancer and heart disease and accounts for 40% of deaths in the UK, many of which are preventable.
Podiatrists are part of the wider healthcare team that helps keep people with vascular disease on their feet. https://www.circulationfoundation.org.uk/ vascular-disease-a…

A trip to Kenya prompted a Daud from Harlesden to turn his life around – and now he has graduated from university with a first class Podiatry degree from UEL.
After realising the value of education he also spent time at uni working as a curriculum ambassador going out to schools telling pupils about the degree and the career path of a podiatrist.

"I was introduced to podiatry as a child with problem feet. The podiatrist took me under her wing and introduced me to the profession. At 14 years old I knew I wanted to be a pod!" Emma Westers

Finances are a big concern when choosing a university course- you need to be aware of your potential earnings after graduation to know whether it is worth the investment.
As a podiatrist in the NHS you would start as a Band 5 - £22,128 to £28,746 with the possibility of moving up to a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon (band 9) £79,415 to £100,431
If you choose Private practice after graduation you could expect around £20,000 – £50,000 per annum moving up to owning a successful mu...lti-site private practice you can earn around £150,000 – £1,000,000+
Worth the investment of a 3-4 year course, right?

From Shoulder Pads to a Successful City Centre Clinic, Podiatrist Louise shares her story.
I think (podiatry) it’s getting better and better by the day. We are getting more and more work in private practice as the NHS are discharging patients. There are great opportunities to be an associate or an employee with an established practice. New graduates could really help private practitioners too; the course has changed so much since we qualified and they are a lot more savvy with social media which is important now!”
