Doughnuts! It must be Friday. We honestly don't need any incentive to come to work, but Friday wouldn't be Friday without a jammy treat. Thanks Victoria.
A final helping of his Five-a-Day for a green-fingered fellow. And after the ceremony the mourners turned this splendid veg tribute into soup. Impossible not to love this job!
Today's announcement that the Competition and Markets Authority has launched an investigation into the funerals sector is excellent news for the bereaved. We welcome the news wholeheartedly. Read our submission in support of an enquiry to find out why. http://bit.ly/2TFmU0t
The pace of change in the funeral sector can seem glacial at times, but we're working hard to address that. Fans of this page know how heartened and inspired we always are to discover the innovators out there who are experimenting with alternatives to conventional burial and cremation and reimagining the way we think about death and our interconnectedness with the earth. Shaina Garfield's LEAVES might not become mainstream any time soon, but it's exciting to think about what the future holds. http://bit.ly/2HXUCen
Hats off to our fab funeral director, Hannah, enjoying a well-deserved brew after making a generous contribution to NHS Blood Donation. Committed to her clients and to her community. Find out how you can be part of our winning team: http://bit.ly/2HKG9ST
A couple of events for Wandsworth and Merton residents coming up soon. The Colliers Wood Death Cafe returns to Coffee in the Wood this Sunday, 24 March. On Monday 25 March the Mayor of Merton is hosting a discussion about supporting the bereaved in our community.
This post could change your life. We're hiring. And with two brilliant roles to fill you could be just the person we’re looking for. Follow the link to our website to find out if we've got the job for you. http://bit.ly/2HKG9ST
Amy and Graham have been on the road this week. Graham took his trusty uke along for company on the long drive north. Who knew he could play such a mean cemetery serenade?
‘Death is natural, and it’s not intimidating to these children…They accept it. They know where they fit in the cycle of life because they hear stories from the past.’ Hurrah for the pioneering nursery in a care home. https://bit.ly/2Ux6O9B
It can be tricky lowering a coffin to lie dead straight, but knowing that in life the occupant was very particular and cared about small details, funeral director Amy insisted on realigning it. The rain stopped, the clouds parted and the sun shone.
When we say we encourage all the family to be involved in planning a funeral, we really mean it. Cleo joined us for a family meeting this week and took an active interest in the arrangements! If it's right for you then it's right for us.
"Cremation really just stops that cycle of life to death and life to death again by destroying the potential we have in our bodies to give back to the earth.” It's not only PopCon that's grabbing our attention in Seattle. Washington state is on the verge of legalising human composting thanks in large part to the determined efforts of Recompose. We’re in awe of our friend Katrina Spade for realising “this might be one really... useful and practical option...that resonates for a lot of people emotionally.” http://bit.ly/2HfeVEw
Grief doesn’t stop after the funeral. Life doesn’t simply return to normal for a bereaved person. So don’t forget to keep checking in on your friends to offer your support. You'll find plenty of advice on ways to help at Cruse Care.
For any musos out there, we love the sound of #PopCon2019 at the Museum of Pop Culture, Seattle. "From gospel to metal and beyond, music pays tribute to the departed, offers opportunities for ceremony and commemoration, and helps to process tragedies both personal and public." Showing there's no shortage of ways to start worthwhile conversations about death. http://bit.ly/2XOPWgx
The mysteries of modern life. Funny how many of us will go out of our way to avoid talking about death and yet remain unfazed by the evidence of our mortality all around us! Why does drinking a grande latte in a graveyard (this is Garratt Lane Old Burial Ground in Wandsworth, a lovely pocket of greenery surrounded by shops and offices) seem perfectly normal, when contemplating our own funerals, even thinking about the work of a funeral director fills so many of us with dread?
Aaron's been braving the elements to ensure the day's funerals run without a hitch. There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. And we certainly won't let a downpour bother us or interrupt your plans. Come rain or shine, whatever the heavens are throwing at us, we're always there for you and always on time.
Before the rise of the funeral industry, care for the dead and dying, like midwifery used to be very much women’s work. Ours is a female-led company, but thoughtful care for the dead and the bereaved is determined not by gender but by a personal, open, honest and positive approach #IWD2019 #Balanceforbetter http://bit.ly/2IDKiKI
Did you know that pacemakers can be recycled? Many people are not aware that this an option after death. Brilliant news today from marvellous Mortlake Crematorium that it is now a pacemaker collection point. We're looking forward to other crematoria around the country following Mortlake's lead.
Here's to women everywhere! Happy International Women's Day. #Balanceforbetter
We were privileged to have Poppy's organise and attend my late father's funeral earlier in February this year. They were compassionate, considerate, thoughtful and totally unintrusive in what would have been a very sad occasion. They helped us celebrate my late father's passing with pride and joy, from suggestions for his funeral including music, coffin and clothes to wear, (he was sent on his way with his cricket bat and dates which he dearly loved). Dad's funeral was totally different in a loving and happy way. I HIGHLY recommend Poppy's to anyone wishing to have a lovely independent and personalised send off, for any family member. Thank you so, so much for all your help, care and thoughtfulness throughout the planning and on the day. Nothing was too much for them when it came to Dad! Thanks to all your staff too, who attended on the day. They really made a lovely memory for us to cherish. Xx
This is a stunningly good company. It was a very difficult time and I felt so safe with Poppy's directing the funeral. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for helping us make today such a memorable day. We felt so looked after - and crucially we knew our father Donald was in the best hands. It was a day of life in death.
So helpful from start to finish. Rosanna, we thank you.
Poppy's Is head and shoulders above the general field. Lovely, genuine people and a refreshingly real and caring approach which leaves black top hats and canes behind and doesn't imagine a funeral is about how many limos you have. Human beings at their very best.
Just to thank you and the whole team again for your hard work with my husband's burial , and for your gentleness when you came to collect him from home.
The burial was very moving and meaningful, we all felt that it really represented Michael and our memories of him. When the camper van arrived all the family said "that's him!" and we felt the presence of the clever, loving, funny man whom we had known in life.
Obviously we are all still very sad, but the mood is more one of celebration of his life than of feeling sorry for ourselves.
So thank you again and very best wishes.
I just want to thanku u all at Poppys especially Rosanna ..for organising my dads funeral ..u were all so kind and caring ..and being able to decorate my dads coffin was the nicest experience..all the kids and us loved every second of it ..it was such a personal thing to have beeen able to do ...xxxx
Ever since I attended a seminar at Royal Trinity Hospice, Clapham, and listened to Poppy describe the work, some logistics of funerals, plus adventures and challenges faced by Poppy's funerals, along with the insights gained and sensitivities brought, I have been a huge fan. I love that I have been able to direct people to Poppy's Funerals when they lament about funeral costs, or moan about bewildering services, or have just wanted someone to talk through what's really available without having to buy a 'package.' I know where my final wishes lie regarding the practicalities of my own future death adventure, and it gives me confidence and peace of mind whenever the subject of death comes up.
Amazing service. We could not of got through our loss without such great people at poppys. They went that extra mile and made us feel our loved one was in safe and caring hands.I would recommend poppys to anyone having to go through this process.
