Raynes Park Community Church Description

We are a collection of very ordinary people who are trying their best to ‘Live for God and Love His World’. As a community we embed ourselves in the amazing life and story of Jesus. We don’t pretend to know everything but we are convinced that what we believe should shape how we live. We are part of the international family of The Salvation Army, so our faith is one with its sleeves rolled up.

'Look, the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.' (John 1:29)
'Agnus Dei' by Francisco De Zubaran provided some inspiration for us this morning, as we asked ourselves, through which lens should we see the world? There is only one lens that really matters, and that is the lens of Jesus Christ.

In our Spiritual Formation groups we’re exploring Christian character and Christlikeness. This week we’re focusing on the spiritual fruit of peace. This little video clip with Stanley Hauerwas provoked some great discussion....

The joy of the Lord is our strength.

In our spiritual formation groups this week we’re delving into the spiritual fruit of joy. Here’s a great quote from CS Lewis that we’re thinking about:
"Joy—that sharp, wonderful Stab of Longing—has a lithe, muscular lightness to it. It’s deft. It produces longing that weighs heavy on the heart, but it does so with precision and coordination…It dashes in with the agility of a hummingbird claiming its nectar from the flower, and then zips away. It pricks, then vanishes, leaving a wake of mystery and longing behind it."
Joy both comes from the Spirit and leads us deeper into the Spirit.

We've been working for some time with students from Wimbledon High School on our Merton Against Trafficking initiative. Today we met with Stephen Hammond MP to discuss how we could raise more awareness about Modern Slavery and develop a good practice charter for small businesses. Very thankful to Stephen for his time and support, and for the students on all their hard work!

So pleased to be involved with this today - it was wonderful to see children from different schools so keen to take action, and work together.

Over 2019 we are exploring 'the fruit of the Spirit', referenced in the New Testament (Paul's letter to the Galatian Church chapter 5 verses 22-23): Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Here's a wonderful prayer to pray every day by John Baillie.

We’ve found that the Community Sponsorship programme is a brilliant way to connect and build relationships with others in the locality. So many positive, hopeful and exciting conversations at this meeting.

This morning, at the beginning of 2019, and at a time when the mood of the nation seems dangerously divisive, we called one another to the life-giving ‘fruit of the Spirit’.
This wonderful prayer by John Stott, who prayed it first thing every day, is a good place to start.
