Let's get RCN London members up the charts!
Very proud of our members Elem and Brenda who have joined more than 50 NHS staff and a host of pop stars to produce the new NHS charity single, an epic new cover of With A Little Help From My Friends.
The single features stars such as Seal, Guy Garvey, Beverley Knight with money raised going towards some brilliant NHS charities.

Well done to RCN London regional staff who have raised £231 to support families separated under ICE at the US border.
The money will go to RAICES, a charity which provides vital legal representation and bail posting to help reunite broken up families.
You can find out more about their work and donate on this link --> https://www.raicestexas.org/

The NHS is 70, and we will be marching along with colleagues, patients, supporters and fans on Saturday to celebrate this wonderful service and call on the powers that be to protect and nurture it.
If you would like to join us, we will be gathering at RCN H, 20 Cavendish Square, W1G 0RN from 10.30am and making our way over to the start of the march at the NMC, 23 Portland Place for 11.30am.

Sure to be a very interesting talk -
Gary Younge’s mother came to Britain from Barbados in 1961 to be a nurse. In the year that celebrates the 70th anniversary of both the arrival of Windrush and the creation of the National Health Service, Gary explores the issues of race, racism and migration through the contributions immigrants have made, and continue to make, to Britain’s most treasured institution.

We want to hear about what makes you most proud to be a nurse, including things you have done to support patients and their families.
We're also looking for patient accounts of the impact nurses have had on them - it could have been during a hospital stay, out in the community, or any other facet of the vast nursing world.
Pop an email to Emily in the London Region with your contributions emily.davis@rcn.org.uk.

RCN London Regional Director Jude Diggins has responded to the latest NHS Improvement report into trusts' performance which revealed:
- one in three of London's trusts are in financial deficit; - half of London's trusts are failing to meet 62-day cancer referral target; - 81% of London's trusts failing to meet 4 hour A&E target;... - London's nurse vacancy rate is the highest in the country (14%); - London's mental health nursing vacancy is twice as high as any other region (17.6%);
Jude said: ‘This latest report from NHS Improvement paints a picture of a health service doing its best to stay upright in the face of sustained and historic underfunding.
‘One in three of the capital’s trusts are now in the red, nursing vacancies remain the highest in the country and essential targets for A&E and cancer treatment are being missed – none of this happened by accident and the responsibility must lay with the government.
‘When the Prime Minister announces her NHS funding pledge on the NHS’ 70th birthday she must do so with London’s health services, staff and patients in mind - that means new money that not only puts trusts onto a more sound financial footing, but also lifts their health and care budgets so that they can meet rising demand.’

Calling South West London members - a fantastic opportunity to catch an excellent piece of theatre next Tuesday 5 June at 2pm!
This unique dance/theatre performance puts the audience in the care of five over-stretched nurses as they struggle to balance empathy and efficiency, compassion and clinical proficiency.
Inspired by its makers’ experience of long-term hospitalization... Careful celebrates the skill, beauty and toil of professional nursing as seen through the eyes of the patient. This performance is Chaired by Professor Karen Norman, of Kingston University, who have commissioned this performance in celebration of International Nurses Day 2018.

The Guardian has revealed today that the Royal Free Hospital in North London is planning to sell its affordable key worker accommodation and replace it with luxury flats worth up to £10 million.
RCN London Regional Director has responded, saying:
“These clandestine plans to replace affordable key worker housing on NHS land with luxury flats worth up to £10 million is nothing short of disgraceful and an insult to hardworking and dedicated health care staff. Rents in the area a...re sky high, yet instead of seeking to extend and improve the availability of affordable housing for its staff, the Royal Free is intent on selling its land to the highest bidder and uprooting people from their homes – the general public, who NHS land belongs to, will not be impressed.
“We will be challenging these plans all the way. NHS land is public land and should be used to provide the affordable housing people need, not line the pockets of high-end estate agents and luxury property developers.”

We are losing the NHS and the public are not aware.

Private health care Branson "Virgin Care" dismantling the NHS.

What can we do?
