Pilates has also been said to have anti-ageing benefits. By balancing muscles and strengthening the core, Pilates makes you stand taller, with better posture - something generally associated with being younger.
Another benefit of Pilates is that you often find you sleep better after a session. This is because of the post-exercise effect, combined with mindfulness and relaxation of the muscles allows you to fully relax when its time to drift off...
The only competition in Pilates is with yourself. It doesn't matter what other class participants are doing, we encourage you to work at the level appropriate for you, where it is challenging, but pain-free.
Harder than it looks. We've all done it at some point. Looked at a movement we think is easy, tried it, and found it challenging. Pilates is a very deceptive form of exercise, working muscles when you wouldn't expect it, making it more effective (and a great way to show off to your friends, when you get them to try the moves!)
Greater body awareness. Isn't this something everyone could benefit from? Pilates draws attention to the separate areas of your body, and gradually makes you more aware of your posture, muscles and movement, leading to greater control.
