About Repair Reuse Recycle Cic

We are a social enterprise, whose aim is to help people to repair, re-use, up-cycle, re-skill, re-cycle and refill household items to reduce landfill

Repair Reuse Recycle Cic Description

Repair Reuse Recycle
Currently people send most of their unwanted goods to the dump as they either cannot afford to repair them (beyond economic repair) or they have no further use of the belongings, so again they send their unwanted goods to the dump.

3 years ago we piloted this project using Wivenhoe library, which has been very successful; we now coordinate 5 Repair Cafe's and a social enterprise. Your support will help us to develop the project further to reduce landfill, and also offer meaningful activities and vocational training in a supportive environment.

Our innovative approach to diverting waste is now in increasingly high demand as people in the community want to see more support for the project.

Case study 1
In June 2016 we held the usual Repair Café in Wivenhoe Library. Shortly after this event, we were approached by a local resident who had seen a recommendation via the Wivenhoe Forum of the Repair Café's philosophy “repair it, don't bin it”. Their family washing machine had broken down and the manufacturer had quoted £130 to repair the item, so at this point the family was considering a new washing machine as their machine was 'beyond economic repair' (new washing machine £149. 00). The family was prepared to dump the washing machine, so we located a new part for the machine at a cost of £25 and the family offered a donation of £20 - The machine continues to work, and the family is now an advocate of the social enterprise.
