RAD History: The Benesh Institute, now Benesh International, became part of the RAD in 1997.
The merger of the two institutions took place on 15 April 1997 and a Royal Gala was held later in the year at Her Majesty’s Theatre, to celebrate and raise funds for scholarships.

There’s no fixed plan for dance teachers approaching retirement age. “On one level, they face the same challenges as any small business owner: is there anyone willing and able to take over? Is retirement financially viable? What next? In other ways, their situation is quite particular. Teaching dance is a job intimately tied up with the body; a job that makes stringent physical demands daily. Perhaps more importantly, it is not just a job: it’s an identity and a lifelong passion.”
If you’ve faced this dilemma, what did you decide and what advice would you give?

Grab a cup of ☕, sit back and enjoy a serene Saturday morning watching Unbound 🌊
The film is about hope in the aftermath of loss: about beginning anew, unbound by the past. Choreographed by Maisie Alexandra Byers and performed by Alice Oakley-Jones, who are both graduates of our Faculty of Education, the film was intended to appear as much an emotional landscape as a real one - a clean slate - the start of a new chapter.
