Announcing the latest report from Each Baby Counts, our clinical improvement programme that aims to reduce the number of stillbirths and babies who die or are left severely disabled during term labour.
The latest analysis shows an increase in the quality of local investigations, but that different care might have led to a different outcome in almost three quarters of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and severe brain injuries that occurred in 2016.

New guidance available from the RCOG.
This Scientific Impact Paper discusses the use of biomarkers in identifying and caring for women with complications in early pregnancy. Biomarkers can be measured to work out whether someone has a specific disease or condition and to measure their responses to treatment.
Currently, most early pregnancy complications are diagnosed using ultrasound only. Ideally, a biomarker will accurately diagnose complications in early pregnancy consist...ently, and help to identify those women who need to be treated urgently and monitored more closely.
