About Royal Free London Nhs Foundation Trust

Across our three London hospitals, our vision is clear: to deliver world class expertise and local care. We represent the NHS at its best.

Royal Free London Nhs Foundation Trust Description

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust runs three hospitals in London:

• Barnet Hospital
• Chase Farm Hospital
• Royal Free Hospital

In the 21st century we continue to lead improvements in healthcare, from targeted cancer therapies to new kinds of surgery. We offer an exceptionally wide range of local and specialist services, including cancer, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, blood disorders and infectious diseases and are proud to have some of the best clinical outcomes in the country.

In addition to our three main sites, the trust includes a network of clinics provided at other trusts’ hospitals and community sites. Our local catchment area comprises most of the areas covered by Barnet, Camden, Islington and Haringey primary care trusts (PCTs) together with west Enfield and east Brent.

Our aim is to be in the top 10% of English hospitals for clinical quality, customer satisfaction, staff satisfaction and financial performance. We want to give patients the best possible care in a safe, clean and welcoming environment.

Ten years after the idea was first mooted, the construction of a new home for the UCL Institute of Immunity and Transplantation on the Royal Free Hospital site has reached a milestone which was marked with the installation of a time capsule on 16 October.
The “bottoming out” ceremony marked reaching the lowest point of the site and the beginning of the next phase, when the research building, to be called the Pears Building, will “rise out” of the ground.

Today I celebrate my eldest sons 22 birthday. This birthday and all the others before I have been lucky to see due to the amazing staff at hospital. I am sure many are not there any more however you are never far from my thoughts. After a rare complication of pregnancy I was not expected to make it .but after the care of many doctors and nurses from many departments I not only survived, but nearly 5 years later , I went on to have another son, all be it a very high risk. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU

My partner had a tumour removed from his liver 3 weeks ago which originated with bowel cancer 4 years ago. Yesterday, just three weeks after very major surgery we were told the tumour was completely removed and there was no need for chemotherapy either, the best outcome we could have ever hoped for. The past few weeks have been terrifying at times but Mr Pollok and his team have saved my partners life, performed amazing surgery with no issues despite the severity - the care by all was outstanding and we are truly grateful to this wonderful surgeon who couldnt have done any better for us. My partner is up and about and feeling very well and has made a remarkable recovery ongoing. THANK YOU Royal Free!

My Mum received a kidney transplant last July. She received the best care possible by surgeons, consultants and nurses. They were very informative, kind and caring and put everyone at ease. The care was so great she was out within 4 days. Thank you for giving my Mum a new lease of life.

I was in the RF for five weeks and the care I received was amazing - the nurses, doctors, porters and catering staff were professional, thorough and friendly - thank you

I recently attended the Breast Screening Unit at the Edgware Hospital for a follow-up breast check after an unclear result from a mammogram. Always a bit nerve-wracking, to put it mildly. From the minute I walked into the reception, I was treated with both great kindness and courtesy by all members of staff. The environment is welcoming and professional. Teas, coffees, magazines, crosswords available in the comfortable waiting area. The staff all fulfilled their various roles with great care and competence. Information and advice was relayed clearly and thoroughly. The wonderful NHS at its absolute best. (And I got the all clear!)

I've used the Royal free many times and it's excellent for maternity care and children as well. These are the only 2 wards I had to use so far - maternity ward somewhere on level 5 and the paediatric ward on 6 north but also the (old and new) children a&e. The nurses on 6 north during my most recent stay have been amazing. Very very friendly and compassionate, taking their time looking after my 9month old and using play to distract from all the overwhelming treatment. This resonated with other parents as well. The doctors are understaffed I feel. It can take them a long time to come around but having said that they all were amazing too. I felt I could trust them and found every treatment they suggested reasonable. They did not rush and answered all of my questions. The main reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the discharge time. Again, I know almost every part of the NHS is understaffed. But sitting in a small room for 5 hours with a baby and not knowing when you'll be able to go is frustrating. And it was because it took them this long to get the prescription to the pharmacy on the ground floor and then the medication up again.

All in all I'd recommend all the wards and departments to do with children and babies.

The worst of all, as a patiant I always have a bad experience. Never have been seen on time on any ward, including paeds. The worst one is x-ray and imaging. Only to speak on the phone takes more than 30 min. I never make a choice to come here unless I don’t have a choice. At the moment I am waiting for a ct scan which takes 4-6 weeks to hear from them. I got refferd for my shoulder in feb and itbia end of May and still the investigation is not completed, leave alone the start of treatment.

Phone lines are the worst. At leaser if u can’t answer please keep this most annoying voice away that keeps saying at present there is high volumes of calls. No matter what time u call there is high volume of calls

Terrible!!!! I had a heart attack 17 March 2018 and admitted to UCHL. When I returned home I was admitted from GP despite ruling out pulmonary embolism and having D Dimer levels of 845 and pain in my legs they discharged me twice without ultrasound on my legs to rule out DVT restarted medication UCHL had stopped because it interacted with heart meds and also said I HAD UNDIAGNOSED ASTHMA! The third time they refused to do blood tests to check if I'd hadf a heart attack! The excuse for not treating me because they claimed I had mental health problems. Assure me they have not heard the last from me!
