📣A number of young persons have been dispersed this weekend from the #Egham Waitrose precinct and car parks using powers under the ASB Crime & Policing Act 2014.
This action follows a sharp increase in reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage during the last quarter of 2018.
We are grateful to those members of the public, residents and shop staff who have provided us with the necessary information which has been presented for discussions at Joint Action Group (J...AG) meetings with Runnymede Borough Council and work is underway to restore normality and identify the small minority of people who appear to have been intent on wreaking havoc for everyone else.
A Dispersal Order was authorised before the weekend by the Borough Commander Inspector Nick Pinkerton.
1) If a Constable or Police Community Support Officer has reasonable grounds to suspect that the behaviour of a person in the locality has contributed or is likely to contribute to either
people being harassed, alarmed or distressed, or
an occurence in the locality of crime or disorder
2) The Constable/PCSO considers that giving a direction to the person is necessary for the purpose of removing or reducing the likelihood of the events mentioned above then that person can be directed to leave and not return for 48 hours.
A person given a direction to disperse, under Section 35, who fails without reasonable excuse to comply with it commits an offence.
The Neighbourhood Specialist Officer along with the Youth Intervention Officer and a team of PCSOs spent time patrolling the dispersal area this weekend and several young persons have been ordered to leave and reunited with their parents.
Work has also taken place to search through Safer Runnymede CCTV in order to identify a specific group of males and females who spent several minutes on Thursday evening causing damage to the vehicle ramp, throwing items including a trolley and spitting onto cars entering the car park. This particular footage has been exhibited by Runnymede Borough Council camera operators and whilst we have a strong suspicion as to the names of most of those featured in the footage, we'll also be taking the evidence to the schools this week to firm up some identities.
The level of destruction, mindless vandalism and general stupidity demonstrated over the past couple of weeks is completely unacceptable and we will continue to monitor the situation with a review of our findings due to take place shortly after the weekend.
Runnymede Borough Council staff and contractors along with Safer Runnymede CCTV are working hard to clean up the mess and monitor activity. We’re all working together to find other sustainable solutions to the problem. We’ll report more on that once other meetings have taken place.
Please continue to report anti-social behaviour 📞101🆘999🌐Online and perhaps in some cases ask youself the question, "DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE?"

📣Were you on #Egham High Street in the vicinity of Eat Thai at around 18:30 this evening Friday 4th January?
We’re seeking anyone who witnessed the male occupant of a blue Mercedes saloon with an ’L’ prefix who may have been seen approaching other drivers as they returned to their own vehicles. The male is described as white around five foot ten in height and average build in his 40s. He had blonde hair.
The informant was with his young son when approached by this male w...ho whilst reaching into the car and acting in an aggressive manner, proceeded to suggest that there had been a collision with his own vehicle. If you have any information to assist, please 📞101 quoting reference P19003137
We’ll be speaking to Safer Runnymede CCTV and reviewing the town cameras in a bid to identify the vehicle.
