"Knyvette directs with crisp aplomb and pacey authority: there’s nothing but lean and it happens with an alacrity wholly in tune with Shindler.
It’s to Knyvette that we owe the resurrection of this play –
.....With such a necessary drama too, it’s good it’s so tight and masterly. We need more Shindler in the theatre rather

Certainly deserving of success, and I do hope it can get to another theatre. "

★★★★
There is little hint of a love triangle when a young woman with Asperger’s Syndrome first comes to stay with her sister and brother-in-law. Sarah is awkward at first and a lot of laughter is raised by her inappropriate comments. Much of the humour comes from her brutal candour. We learn early in the play that she cannot lie. Neither can she read what other people are thinking from their body language. At first this seems an impediment to her. However, as the play develops we soon learn to see things differently.
Writer Amy Shindler gives us a love triangle like no other considering Sarah’s emotions are underdeveloped. She is a person of whom her sister, Kate, can say - “Then one day she replaced me with an empty Captain crunch cereal box”. it has spurs and thorns with the added complication that Sarah’s sister is her carer. Having been partly developed from real life stories about people with AS, Shindler’s research has paid off. Her characters do ring true and the story is plausible. Therefore, what happens is very unsettling. We might re-think what we know about ourselves and our relationships with each other.
The play is also blessed with three fine actors. Simon Bubb is exquisite as the painfully put upon Dan. Anne Adams is charming as his wife Kate reeling from one crisis to another. She is also endearing as the sister doing her best to care for Sarah. The real Kate somehow begins to be defined by these roles more than as a person in her own right. Rae Brogan as Sarah is compelling to watch.
