We went for the Father's Day event. Dad got his free pint of beer and we all enjoyed the hog roast. It was a very hot day so there were several cold water tables out around the grounds. A very good idea regularly replenished throughout the afternoon. The young staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Beautiful grounds. a very nice day. Thank you.

User

We have stayed at Salomons several times and it is our choice of accommodation. We arrived on Friday evening after a day at Howletts . When we went to our room we noticed that the bed was a double which for me was a problem , l am disabled and l need room to stretch. My husband rang reception to see if we could be moved to another room the following day, it was quite late and we were happy to stay in the original room for the first night. They were more than happy to move us and they did so straight away no problem. The new room was warm and welcoming, with a king size bed which was perfect. We were both very cold the weather was not good we soon warmed through and slept very well. Breakfast always is, according to how hungry you are, a full English, cereals toast, or pastries. Once again the gardens were magnificent the lake had ducks skimming over it, creating a peaceful scene. We have recommended Salomons and will continue to do so when visiting this part of Kent.

Thank you to the staff for making our stay pleasurable.

We missed seeing Nick.

The state got an amazing views and a fantastic place for private occasion.

User

Thank you to all the Staff at Salomons who helped make our Wedding Day so special for us. The Estate was stunning in its Autumn colour, beautifully kept, Christie our host worked very hard for us and nothing seemed too much trouble from the planning to the day itself. Our compliments to the chef and the staff who served the food to such a large number of guests with the quality as excellent as it had been on our taster day, Afternoon tea was lovely with a beautiful cheese Wedding Cake to follow and an equally welcome evening buffet - not forgetting a breakfast the next morning we heard described as "just like my Mums - very tasty" ! The accommodation suited our needs and being in a separate location proved to be no problem to our party of guest , who varied greatly in age.

User

Stunning! We got married here in July 2016, its an amazing venue and the staff are so lovely too!

User

Probably underrated. Nice quiet corner, quite sizeable, very professional & organised, ....... . And the meal?? Fantastic! The staff were certainly on the ball. I even noticed much later we had sound security in 'hidden' backgrounds, one had barely noticed. Now that made things reassuringly comfortable, (irrespective of the fact that we hadn't needed them).

Visiting, liaising and agreeing what my wife could get in place for the big day made things straightforward. The organised & picturesque place really helped get this nervous man get back in control of himself. Thank you for your help in making our important day a successful one!

The rooms, location & size of place. Certainly no regrets I got married there. Thumbs up!

User

My son and his wife were married at Salomons on Friday. The venue is a fantastic location, the grounds are beautiful and the staff extremely helpful. The food was superb and the bar well stocked. We had an amazing time, the wedding went exactly to plan, this was due mostly to the support from Vicky the wedding & events planner. Vicky saw to every need of the wedding party on the day & I'm reliably informed everything leading up to the big day. A big thank you to everyone at Salomons Estate.

User

Me and my husband got married here this easter sunday just gone and we had the best day. The staff were all lovely, there were no problems the event staff were amazing from the moment i looked round the venue, on the day itself and afterwards. Luckily the weather held off meaning we could have our wedding outside on the terrace which is what attracted myself to the venue. All the guests loved the venue and the grounds complimenting the staff and the accomodation.

Alicia and Georgie were the main event staff i dealt with and they made sure my every need was seen to. The day went without a hitch, i would highly recommend this venue its understated, simple but amazing and speaks for itself. Just want to say a massive thankyou to all the staff at Salomons for making my day extra special.

User

It was an amazing place to celebrate intimate events! LOVE the food, the pre-drinks and ambiance!

Thank you to the Dousts for picking this venue!

User

I had my wedding here, at the Picturesque salomons, in July. We had an amazing day, and couldn't fault it. The food and wine were delicious and everyone commented that it was the best wedding meal they have had. All The Staff went above and beyond and made us feel relaxed and at ease. Such a beautiful place to have your wedding day and couldn't recommended enough. you will not be dissapointed.

The grounds are superb as was the greeting. Had a drink in the bar which lacked atmosphere maybe some soft seating would help rather than tables and chairs, otherwise no complaints. After reading some reviews I was worried about our room but all was clean and comfortable, however we did loose all power as did our friends in the next room so we couldn't shower etc but they offered us another room to shower and get ready in until the problem was fixed which probably took about 40-45 mins. The assistant manager gave us free drinks and apologised for the problems. It was Hollywood glamour night, the food was lovely but long waits between courses and no music on until we asked. Casino idea was brilliant and dj was good I thought trying to cater for a range of ages. No complaints at all about breakfast and on leaving the receptionist apologised again for the power loss we encountered. All in all a good night and comfortable sleep. Yes the walls are thin but so are many hotel rooms I've stayed in and they do there best to make things welcoming.

User

The food was excellent, my group of 20 was very happy with the food service too. Sadly there was not enough staff at the bar for such a big crowd, (lots of groups there) so I ended up not buying anything. In view if the number of guests for the Hollywood Glamour party they should also have had more Casino tables really. As it was packed. This made the rooms very warm indeed.

I was wrong in assuming that we would all be in the bigger room, not an issue until the disco started, we sort of missed out on that as we were then having coffee and playing Casino. Disco was in a complete separate room.

Overall we had a great time. Would probably do it again but more bar staff and turning the radiators down would be a great help.

User

First visit here and was pleased with the A Father Christmas experience. However, felt rather disjointed and was not clear where to go and what was happening next. Nice treasure hunt round grounds but no one to receive us on return to award prize. Had to therefore hang around and then told the elf would be back later!!! Had lunch in the bistro that was pleasant and excellent value for money so likely to return for this and a nice walk round the grounds.

User

My Friend and I were redeeming an Afternoon Tea voucher that had been purchased as a Birthday gift. My Friend had paid for a Champagne Tea but what we got was a standard Afternoon Tea.... which was ok and really nothing special at all.

When my friend questioned why there was a price difference between the cost of her Afternoon Tea and my voucher. The young girl looked embarrassed and admitted that they had made a mistake but obviously at this time it was far too late for us to have our champagne. Had my Friend not said anything they clearly was just going to keep her extra money and not say anything!

There was no real apology she just said it was because she didn’t Know what kind of voucher I had. Even though when I booked the Afternoon Tea I explained what the voucher was for and offered to give the voucher number of which they declined.

The place seems so unorganised and I even had a bad experience when booking. When I booked the lady on the phone explained that they don’t do Afternoon Teas very often and that she would have to get permission from the chef therefore she would have to ring me back......she never got back to me....

I had to chase them again which was awful customer service to say the least to make sure we were allowed to come.

Unfortunately we won’t be recommending or returning in the future.

User

Came for the Hollywood glamour evening, the whole service was rushed we had barely finished each course when more food came out. People were constantly clearing barely finished food. Rush rush. Then they missed my desert off and came out with lots of the wrong food. The free rose wine was awful. The entertainment was good but not much of a dance floor and the DJ lost everyone's at the end with some bad music.

User

Looks lovely doesn't it? And its was when we left this morning. The grounds are lovely and the staff are helpful. However I was very disappointed when I booked a room to stay in as a treat after a Christmas party we were having there last night. The rooms you book? Aren't in the main house which at night in the rain is a guessing game to find if you've never been there before. No clear signage, we aimed for the star. We parked and went to check in, only to be told our room is out and up the drive. A very steep drive, in the rain. We rounded a corner to look upon what can only be described as old school buildings. Once we found ours, after 15minutes in the rain and dark trying to break into the building we'd been sent to we discovered by chance that we were in a different block completely. Eventually we found our room and we're pleased to discover that unlike our disgruntled neighbours we had lights. I got my husband to evict the large spider in the corner of the room and after his second attempt to dispose of it down the en suite we got ready for our Christmas party and the dash through the rain to the main building. The meal was pleasant and we got back to our room at gone midnight. Chilly from our trek up the drive we commented on how cold we were but in our 'merry' state didn't think about it much. The much anticipate lie in (Impossible at home with a 3 year old) Was non existent as by 7am the chill if you moved off your warm patch in bed was joined by the daylight flooding in around the roller blinds that sat 2 inches away from the Windows and as the pillows were directly below said gap hard to ignore. Despite turning the radiator thermostat to full in our bedroom, no heat was forth coming and the spider had dragged himself out of the toilet and back into his corner, unsurprising as the lock on the bathroom door was broken preventing us from barricading it against his return. We had a pleasant breakfast (back in the main building) and were given a 20% discount on our departure. The receptionist did ask why we didn't report the problems but at 1am you don't think to check that a hotels heating works. I hope the condensation that was streaming off the windows when we left (apparently we are that hot and steamy) finishes what the 2 flushes didn't to the spider. I wont be staying again and I'd not pay for the Christmas party there either. It was nice to see my friends, but for the money I'd go to the East Sussex National (great gym and spa use). Happy Christmas!

User

Went for a 100th birthday lunch. Slow, reluctant service with mediocre food! The birthday lady’s dessert cake with candles was forgotten by staff as they went off to have their own dinner, not what you would expect. Felt bad for having this venue for my Nans birthday. Would NOT recommend, at all.

User

To be woken at half twelve at night by other guests actually coming into our room because they had been given the key to our room is bad enough... to then wait semi-naked in the corridor for 20 minutes while somebody shows up to resolve the situation worsens the situation somewhat, to then hear the words "don't complain to me, I'm just the little man, speak to a manager in the morning" was the real icing on the cake.

A cake that was further iced in the morning when we were informed that not only does "this sort of thing never happen at Salomons" (it sort of actually did though, didn't it?), but that the hotel still thought a charge of £47.50 was appropriate. Can't help wondering what has to happen in the night for a full refund to be considered. Perhaps if the hotel had given the key to our room to a serial killer? Although, if that had been the case, I suspect you may have levied a cleaning fee.

Oh, and if breakfast does actually start at 7.30, you might want to tell the breakfast staff. It was just about put out by the time we left at ten to eight.

User

One of the first things you will notice about many reviews of this place is the way that many comments relate to the truly awful "barracks" that comprise the accommodation blocks here. The second thing is the similar criticism made of the staff. Finally, and perhaps most interestingly, the way that any replies to criticism are clearly cut-and-paste should warn those looking for somewhere to stay how little management seem to care. We booked 7 rooms in total and the best I can say is that they were average. All the rooms were exceptionally stuffy and not air-conditioned. We shared the view that the staff were rude - the young man on duty when I checked in and out was a study in arrogance and neglect. We realised it was not the best choice we had made but it was somewhere to sleep while we were occupied with a family wedding elsewhere. The prison blocks, sorry I mean accommodation, (by the way hidden very well on the website) were at the top of a VERY steep hill. The roadway is smooth to the point of being glazed. On the way down my legs slid out from under me as if I was on ice and I injured myself badly, also ripping my clothes badly. When I recovered and approached reception, I was offered no help or first aid despite clearly bleeding and with ripped trousers. The same rude young man on reception did say he would call for a manager and I went off to wait over breakfast. When I queried nobody coming to speak to me, this same character said I had (emphasising the word had) to fill in a form before the manager would speak to me. My response was robust to being told what I HAD to do in front of a full breakfast room. We left, still having not been spoken to. This is now in the hands of my lawyers.

I beg anyone wanting to have anything to do with this organisation to think again. The location is physically dangerous in my opinion and part of the action we are taking is to ask for a Health & Safety inspection, before someone else gets injured
