Save Gaby'S Deli Description
The landlord, the Marquess of Salisbury, wants to redevelop the site of Gaby’s Deli as a chain restaurant. Gaby's would like to stay. Westminster Council gave planning permission for four properties to be converted into a restaurant (although this would reduce retail space, in contradiction to their own planning strategy and officers’ advice). If that's what the Marquess wants to do, he therefore can. But we want the Marquess to heed the wishes of Gaby's MP, customers and neighbours and let him stay.
Gascoyne Holdings, the Marquess’s company, have now offered Gaby a "Tenant at Will" contract which will not be enforced against him until August 31st 2012 at the earliest. After that he can be evicted with just FOUR WEEKS' NOTICE - with no redress. You can't run a business or retain staff on that basis.
The Marquess has written to campaigners to say that he believes Gaby has signed an agreement and is content with this. The Marquess considers the matter closed.
But although Gaby has signed - he felt he had no other option - he is far from content and has stated that “I still hope that there will be a reversal of the decision and I will be granted a new long-term lease would allow my establishment to continue serving our loyal customers. ”
Those of us who value London's variety and a unique place to eat in the West End will continue the campaign!

Going to Gaby's on Tuesday before Richard 3 at Trafalgar Studios - with a crowd who've never been before and know only the Save Gaby's campaign. So hope the falafel is on song!

Anyone up for another good fight with greedy developers? The Oaks in Acton is going to be turned into a massive, gated community with NO public realm and a nine storey tower right on the street. Wholly out of keepin with the Victorian conservation around it. Huge waitrose planned which many welcome (Waitrose started in Acton) but what will happen to our independent butcher, wine shop, florist etc- all carefully nurtured. Good news! It looks like the plans to redevelop Gaby's site are at least postponed with new, small scale tenants moving in above. Thanks to eagle-eyed Eleanor for spotting this.

I have been to Gaby's Deli twice. I had the most delicious falafels l had ever had.

A shining gem fighting against Central London's ability to rip off our tourists and workers with poor quality crap. Excellent, healthy, freshly prepared food, priced reasonably for very generous portions. Worth saving and bringing to other parts of our overpriced capital!
One of the consistently best and affordable places to eat in the West End. Excellent Mediterranean and Jewish dishes, somewhere where meat eaters (Superb salt beef) and vegetarians can eat together, and really good coffee. Bit of a time warp, and all the better for it.
One of my fav places in town.salt beef,soup,salads and falafel all very good.wish they did a English style beer.that is my one and only gripe.
Microwaved falafel ��...,and not being asked what salad/ veg I wanted with my falafel was my only real issue.
