"Hi, my name is Faduma Sharif. I am a medical student at University of Southampton. My interest in volunteering with Selfless stemmed from two things. Growing up as the child of immigrants, I've always been interested in global health. The stark contrast of the NHS to privatised systems and the consequent differences in patients’ health was difficult to see. I also had many close friends who volunteered with Selfless in previous years, and it seemed the objectives of the prog...ramme, their learnings, and the opportunities were a good fit for my interests and goals. "Hi, my name is Mohammed Moksud. I’m a final year dental student at The University of Sheffield and I’ll be joining Selfless on this year's Elective Aid trip. During my time at university, I have had the opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering dental care both at a local and an international level. The University of Sheffield runs an outreach scheme which allows students to experience the challenges faced by primary health care facilities in the top 10% of most depri...ved areas in Sheffield. Here I was able to witness firsthand the disparities in healthcare within the UK. Global health interventions recognise this widespread inequality which exists in both high- and low- resource countries. Their ability to implement effective measures and to provide care on a broader population level will be dependent on recognizing these differences in access to healthcare. I feel passionate about being a part of a programme that identifies and addresses these issues with health care providers.(Mohammed, Dentistry)"

‘Hello! I’m a history graduate of King’s College London and I am very excited to be joining Selfless and a wonderful team of volunteers on Elective Aid 2018. I was an Associate at Selfless for three months in 2017 working on the Baby Bundles programme.
Our programme encourages the mothers to integrate themselves into the medical system, improving the safety for the baby and the mother. I am looking forward to learning more about maternity in Bangladesh. I am deeply passionate... about this programme and I can’t wait to see it in action, help widen access to healthcare and improve the initiative.
