We had a fantastic stay... lovely room great food ... only thing was the £50 taken on credit card as a deposit ... we paid cash for what we had and on check out was told it could take 2 wks to return deposit which we think is totally wrong. This needs to be looked into ... most places take a penny just to have card details on record.

User

Staff were very friendly, food at restaurant was delicious, room was clean, spacious and comfortable.

Can’t wait to book again for another couple days away!

Thank you 😊

Hopefully we have better weather next time as would like to explore the grounds more.

User

Lovely hotel, nice welcoming staff but from other reviews maybe I got lucky. The rooms are all lovely and well equipped so I can’t fault the grounds and hotel at all. However, at 4.30 am the fire alarm went off, I’d only managed an hour or so sleep at this point and having got out of bed and made my way into the corrifldor found out it was a false alarm 😡 At 6 am it went off again but this time for about 10 Seconds then stopped. My wife and I were not amused and at 8.30 made our way down for a tired breakfast, the food was great but any plans we had made for Saturday went out the window as we were both knackered. Maybe a voucher for a free night would help in this regard, but that apart, the hotel deserves a 5 stars in my opinion 👍

User

Have been many times before for afternoon tea and dinner but we had an amazing afternoon tea for a friends baby shower yesterday.

The table decorations, staff and of course food was incredible as always.

Would definitely recommend to everyone. Thank you very much

User

Beautiful Hotel. We had room 2 which was gorgeous. Extremely large with a four poster and a very big bathroom. Food was superb and first class service from the staff. Highly recommended.

User

Very friendly staff at check in and this continued with the bar staff and restaurant staff too. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was lovely and the food in the restaurant was delicious. We were charged for additional drinks at checkout but these were immediately removed once I challenged it. Genuinely believe it was a simple mistake.

User

Our company Epiroc has been using this hotel since last year. This was my 3rd stay. Always a warm welcome when you arrive. Staff are polite, courteous and attentive. Dinner was excellent as usual. My only criticism would be breakfast. Bacon is always dried up under hot plate lights. Come on chef you can do better 😳 Otherwise keep up the good work 😜

User

Can not fault the grounds and building of the hotel. The rooms are large and well equipped with facilities including iron, hair dryer and a large tv. We also had an extra heater in the room that had been turned on prior to our arrival with it been a cold day. The rooms are amazing value for money and the hotel itself is only a 15 minuet drive from the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tours which was the out loud of the trip. The reception staff were very friendly and checked us in immediately despite arriving early.

However as mentioned in other reviews it can be quite loud at times making it difficult to sleep. Our room was situated outside the lifts meaning we were awake at various points throughout the night and early morning (whenever anyone used the lift) due to the noise level in our room.

On our second night we chose to have a meal at the hotel restraunt rather than venture out. We arrived at the restraunt at 18.55 and asked if we would be able to have a table for 2. The gentleman we asked was rather abrupt and told us the restraunt didn't open till 19.00 but failed to ask if we would like to get a drink at the bar like other guests whilst we waited. We were dressed casual (no sports wear, jeans and nice top) as we were staying at the hotel and wanting a relaxed night we chose the hotel restraunt for convience. Due to this and being a young couple it was quite an uncomfortable experience, as it almost felt like we shouldn't be there. However most of the waiting staff were very friendly (especially a younger male member of staff who regularly checked on us) food was delivered promptly and was cooked incredibly, we had the steak and lamb. Amazing quality for the price paid.

Overall I nice stay, there is an issue with noise but overall great quality for money. The restraunt experience could have been better we would have stayed in the restraunt for longer and got a few drinks but felt uncomfortable so retired to our room as soon as we finished our meal.

User

1 star off because breakfast needs improving dry & cold. Hotel beautiful rooms lovely great size, bed huge really 😊

User

You cannot fault the beautiful grounds etc but service was slow and sloppy which lets it down , I was here for a meal in April and then again for a cream tea with friends on Sunday and on both occasions service was poor

User

Very pleasant lady at the bar ,we had sandwiches that we ate outside .You could do with improving the patio with stands to hold the sunshades. Also the extractor fan pumping out the smell of cooking not pleasant and even the wheelie bin on patio didn’t help much. All that aside the food was good but a bit of salad would have improved the look of the plate....Can’t fault the service or the taste.

We had come to check you out for a family afternoon tea for 12 people so I guess we will be eating inside. Can’t stress enough your staff are superb.

User

Stayed at this Hotel for my Husband’s Birthday. I emailed the Hotel before our stay. To request a nice room as it was a special occasion. The room was a nice size but nothing special and the bathroom was very tired and in need of updating. The staff were very friendly, the dinner menu did not have a great choice but the meal I choose was very nice. The breakfast buffet was not very nice and hot buffet was cold. The Hotel is in a good location with easy access into London.

User

Our visit had some high and lows .. From the outside the pictures we had seen did not lie .. settings and hotel are stunning .

on arrival we were treated to a typical experience of professional customer service.

After a quick visit to the room we enjoyed a comfortable afternoon like most guests in a seated area..

That evening we had booked a meal for our stay in the restaurant. We were greeted and shown to our table. We browsed a well balanced menu and settled down for the evening having placed our orders.

Next the waiter returned he had given us the wrong menu. So after an apology and producing a virtual like for like we re-ordered. We made a joke and carried on.. then the same waiter returned with yet another menu.. he had given a second incorrect menu.. we finally ordered from what seemed a long process .. food we could not fault .. well prepared and cooked..

After evening meal .. a long day caught up and we retired to our room.. now I don't expect a quite hotel over weekends but what followed I certainly regard as not perfect .. we switched on a tv which could not be turned down volume was high .. it was late so we left it .. lights out and sleep. Around midnight doors and noise in corridor constant .. what sounded like bins or something being dragged across gravel or concrete then was next ...

This continues till after 02.00.. not a great nights sleep.

Woke and both of us had had a bad night sleep wise broken by the early hours ...

We switched on room kettle for a cup of tea and now the kettle failed to work...after an early morning call to reception a new one was delivered.

As of yet breakfast has not been sampled .. however the experience overnight ... means it can only get better we hope.

An overnight stay was booked as a gift for my 50th birthday by my son and daughter in law. The initial experience on arrival was not a good one. I was charged (a holding charge) for the room plus £50 to cover any additional costs before we even got into our room. I explained the room had been paid for already but both staff on reception looked and told me it definitely hadn't been paid. I then called my son and had to ask the embarrassing question, had they actually paid for the room in advance to which he assured me they had. My daughter in law then called the hotel (more than once) and had a very confusing conversation and at one point was told that I had only paid £50, to which I sent her a picture of the receipt I had for £125. She finally spoke to someone else who thankfully did get the issue resolved. I received a telephone call in the room to confirm there had been a mistake and that I would get refunded for the cost of the room on my final bill when checking out. However, by this time it had caused some distress to both myself and my daughter in law. Also, our room was on the ground floor with doors doors going out to some sort of alcove where there seemed to be some sort of work going on. I couldn't open the door as there was something up against it on the outside. As it was raining I wasn't too worried about having the door open but this could of course be a fire issue if the door is blocked. I intended letting reception know but as it was quite busy when I went out it completely went out of my head. As I have read from other reviews, there was quite a lot of noise from a party that must have been just across from our room but this I could understand being a Saturday night. The saving factor of our stay was the restaurant. The staff, especially the lady at front of house during evening dinner, were lovely. Attentive and friendly without being overly so. The food was wonderful too. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, just a shame didn't get off to a very good start.

User

This place has a good reputation localy and after my stay i would say that that reputation is not deserved.

Terrible service at bar waited 10 mins to be served then to be told it would shut and had to move on.

Bar in function room a small hole in the wall with staff of all the urgency of a snail with serve case of lethargy .

The food was nothing overly special. Starter was average . The main was like a Bernard Mathews turkey roast best part of main the gravy. The sweet again nothing specail . No coffe and mints although this was on the menu.

Service felt rushed and unprofessional.

The room was nothing specail i have stayed in nicer rooms. The journey to the room was a mission . The room numbers did not seem to be in correct order and after walking through narrow maze like corridors we found some directions.

The shower in the room was no good a small trickle . Bed small and uncomfortable.

If this was not a work Christmas function i would ask for a refund.

People i went with helped make this a good night . Not because of where we were but who we are .

Breakfast was best part of stay .

User

The hotel seemed very dated, and when I got on what appeared to be a nice double bed I realised it was actually two cheap single divans together. The mattress on each bed was thin & hard. I should have stayed at the Premier Inn, at least I know what to expect there & the beds are much better. Very disappointed, expected more, looks very grand from the exterior, but disappointing when entering. Also felt there was a lack of "customer service"

User

Horrible 1st experience at this, otherwise very lovely setting. The only highlight was the welcoming of the very lovely and professional reception lady (arrived on 22/12/2017 around 5pm and really hope she gets praised!!).

The staff at the dinner service was good and friendly too, but nothing special. The hostess at breakfast was as grumpy as if her night’s sleep was almost as bad as ours, which brings me to the next point!!

We couldn’t sleep at all!!! Unfortunately, it was a Xmas do there and for the level of noise, I gather we were just above it! To make matters worse, the party was then ‘moved’ to the hotel grounds. This being past 23:30 and with a terribly tired 6 years old, we complained to reception that despite their best efforts (I hope!!) didn’t manage to calm the party animals.

About 01:00-01:30am silence was achieved. Until at 06:00 we have the 1st fire alarm. At 06:20 the second....

The rooms (or at least ours) are nice and spacious. But dreadfully hot! The beds are old, squeaky and not very comfortable.

All and all, what was supposed to be a comfortable and quiet evening after a day at WB studios celebrating our son 6th Birthday, became a distressful and agonisingly long experience! Sadly, because the hotel ground are beautiful!

User

We just got back from a night in this hotel and disappointing in an understatement.

The venue looks lovely but unfortunately the service at reception and the beds don't live up to the exterior.

We had 2 singles pushed together instead of a double that parted during the night and the firmest mattress I have ever tried to sleep on. The floor was softer!

Such a shame especially when we where offered no kind of assistance from the reception staff.

Spoiled our special weekend away!!

User

So I'm absolutely disgusted with the behaviour of this establishment. Id made a booking via booking. Com with cancellation up until my stay date, I no longer needed the hotel so I called shendish manor to cancel, they told me it was cancelled. Next they charge me the full amount because I didn't cancel with booking. Com-which they didn't tell me to do. NOT just that but when told by booking. Com to refund me as I provided proof of my conversation with shendish manor they outright lied and said they told me to call booking. Com to cancel. Absolutely disgusting behaviour, if I was prepared to call you shendish manor then I obviously would have called booking. Com if you would have told me to, so I didn't lose my money. Please can you do the right thing stop telling lies and refund me.
