Well that's it folks, that was the final Radio 2 Drivetime show! A brand new early evening programme with Jo and Simon starts on Monday 14th May, and without giving away too much, there'll be loads of exciting new features, plus a few things you may recognise (did someone say Confessions, All Request Friday and Bobbie?)
From everyone on Drivetime, a huge thanks for listening over the last 8 years, and hopefully see you on the 14th!

I too have started switching to another station when their show comes on. I loved the original drive time with Matt etc, but now it seems pretty humourless. Jo is not a natural when it comes to being witty. The show was almost back to itself last Friday when Simon hosted the request show on his own. Please reinstate the original crew - I would definitely be back if you did.

User

What on earth were the BBC thinking when they paired Simon and Jo together? Jo was brilliant in her own spot at 8pm but SimonsвАЩ Drivetime was superb. I used to love listening to his show -it really was my listening hightime of the day but sadly I canвАЩt listen anymore. The BBC for reasons best known to themselves have put two polar opposites together hoping it would work (or tick pc boxes). It has backfired spectacularly. Gone is all the fun and relaxed atmosphere-all we have now is a stiff wooden broadcast(I canвАЩt even call it a show) hosted by two people who do not gel on radio. I now have switched to another station and miss SimonsвАЩ Drivetime so much.

User

We used to love drive time. What they have done has passed irritation to making me feel really angry. The arrogance of the BBC is astonuding. The most popular drive time show in Europe becomes fodder for PC rubbish. Jo Whiley was OK in her own show, but to be honest when placed with Simon Mayo she shows how absolutely lacking she is as a prime time radio presenter. Like all things lately the beeb have even dumbed down our drive time show, the features are pathetic not even worthy a children's radio station. For that reason I am out. I am so sad that Simon is being treated like this. What a waste of a supreme broadcaster to become a boredcaster!

User

This used to be a 5 star show. My one hour drive home used to fly by, then I would turn on the second hour in the kitchen. The new format is appallingly dull. Sorry, but IвАЩd rather listen to Radio 1. And thatвАЩs the audio equivalent of CBeebies.

User

The original Drivetime was a fantastic show with interesting guests and features and a real camerarderie between Simon, Matt, Bobbie and Nigel. Unfortunately, the new show is now a shadow of what it so recently was and it is all down to the addition of Jo Whiley whose broadcasting skills are, frankly, rubbish. The BBC have received literally thousands of complaints about the new format but the вАШSuitsвАЩ refuse to accept that they have made an almighty mistake in fixing a problem that did not exist. They sit in their ivory towers looking down on us mere mortals who, incidentally, pay their exorbitant salaries - well, they should be ashamed of themselves and ignore the licence fee payers at their peril.

User

The only way to make a point it seems, is to switch this dross off!

What a dreadful show it is now. We tried to listen to it, but it makes Dermot OвАЩDREARY sound interesting!

IвАЩm off, Radio2. I know you wonвАЩt miss me, but if you change your mind and put Jo back where she belongs, and SimonвАЩs team back together, I may come back.

User

Sorry. Gave it time but sadly this is a shadow of its former self and lacking all the fun, laughter, enthusiasm of the dreamteam, Simon, Matt, Bobbie and Nigel. I'll come back when BBC have seen sense and returned the dreamteam to us. I thin if this was commercial radio, 1) the show would probably never have been axed in this way and 2) management heads would roll or should that be "refreshed".?

User

Please, please, please go back to the old format. ThereвАЩs no chemistry between SM and JW and she brings absolutely nothing to the revamped format. And the producer/managers should stop saying вАЬgive it time to bed inвАЭ and вАЬgive it 6 months etcвАЭ. The listener numbers are plummeting and the bosses are in denial.

User

Please please please please please... get jo wiley off the show. She is dreadful. I cant listen to her. So insincere, so false, so awful to listen to. If she says 'wow' one more time.... I've tried every evening since the new launch... but am now switching off.

Simon Mayo show as it was - just brilliant. Foodie Thursday - excellent. Team camaraderie - perfect.

User

Like so many people, loved both presenters own shows but can't enjoy them together. Please listen to your listeners and change it back to how it was before. There's no shame in admitting you were wrong. You tried, we tried to like it, but it just isn't working! Please stop being stubborn and listen to the people who pay for your services!

User

ItвАЩs not easy to add 1 and 1 together and make less than 2. But the new format for the Drivetime Show has managed to do just that. If nothing else it has made me aware that there is no one word for the opposite of synergy. Perhaps Simon and Jo could ask the few remaining listeners to write in with their suggestions. It makes for uncomfortable listening so I have joined many others and IвАЩve stopped listening. The highlight of my end-of-day has become a nightmare.

User

I've tried so hard to 'give it time', but the Drivetime show has lost it's lustrous sparkle. I find it hard to connect to the music, the still-disjointed presenting, the lack of genuine engagement with the audience. It comes across as tired, unpolished and cliched. At least Bobbie hasn't lost her shine.

The one redeeming feature is that Liza Tarbuck isn't presenting, but that isn't saying much.

Thanks for the last 6 years of chuckles and waiting in the car to hear the end of a confession or whatever random amusing thread, it was fun while it lasted. :(

User

I've given it time....keep tuning in, in the hope it actually gets better but the new format is not a patch on the old drive time. I agree with so many of the comments. I don't want to listen to local radio when I've listened and loved drive time for so long. Now tho I'd actually rather listen to the adverts and flick thru them than listen to Jo's voice. It just doesn't work. It's such a shame. So many people are tuning out....I'm sure that wasn't the idea! пњљ

User

I was always a daily listener, have been since Simon Mayo started drivetime. The confessions, Foody thursday, Matt the Sports Guy, вАЬthe teamвАЭ.

I hold my hand up and say IвАЩve never liked Jo Whileys show because I donвАЩt go listen to the obscure so called вАЬup and comingвАЭ bands no one has ever heard of. Not interested in the empty stage/tent at Glastonbury.

Now the best show on british radio has become bland, boring and without laughter. It used to suck you in, you could look around and know people were listening to the same show ESPECIALLY at 5:15 on a Friday for the muppets. Now, itвАЩs just garbage all in the name of diversity and gender pay gap. If thatвАЩs the case, give her the Noon show or Chris Evans slot, heвАЩs crap anyway. But youвАЩve wrecked this for me. I вАЬgave it timeвАЭ. IвАЩm out. IвАЩll go find something else on TuneInPro, thereвАЩs hundreds of stations out there.

Bye Simon Mayo, itвАЩs been great рЯШҐ

User

I was a listener of the drive time show for many years and always loved the variety and humour from Simon and the team. In my opinion it was the best show on the radio. I did listen to the new format for a few weeks but have now given up altogether, it simply doesn't work anymore.

User

I totally agree the new format doesn't work and with all the lost listeners and negative feedback, including myself perhaps (but I doubt it) the BBC will reinstate the show, but I suspect that this is another lets have a female representative on a popular show, if you heard the commentary from I think Hazel Irvin on the golf tournament over the weekend I am afraid some female presenters are not suited to male dominated sports. They may be a top presenter but do they have a passion for what they are presenting, usually no, they just read the autocue and spout readily available statistics.

User

I love both Simon and Jo, but NOT together. They each have their own style of presenting. Unfortunately the two styles are not compatible. They have no chemistry together, the show is difficult to listen to, awkward and embarrassing in places. Please bring back the old format.

User

I have stopped listening - I would rather listen to commercial radio with 5 minutes of continuous adverts than listen to Jo Whiley prattle on and Simon try and get an awkward word in edgeways.

SimonвАЩs original format worked, it was dynamic, entertaining, varied and the perfect accompaniment to my drive home.

This format is bloody awful. I echo everything that others have said at length. The format and features are also awful. The adjective generator is something IвАЩd expect on a kids programme, I fail to see the point? The taxi service feature as well - groan - wasnвАЩt a fan of JoвАЩs original slot at 8pm (repetitive, same stuff day in day out) and I donвАЩt understand why this has been incorporated.

CanвАЩt wait for some listening figures to be published, a mass exodus I expect.

Change it back, please.

User

Guys what have you done?! The show was on a TOTAL ROLL! World domination status - best show on radio by far!!! Podcasts you could listen to over and over again... Now its painful and irritating. There's nothing to do but change the station and shake my head at the 2 button. Soz guys... maybe see you around some time

User

Jo is not a natural when it comes to being witty. The show was almost back to itself last Friday when Simon hosted the request show on his own. Please reinstate the original crew - I would definitely be back if you did.

This used to be a 5 star show. My one hour drive home used to fly by, then I would turn on the second hour in the kitchen. The new format is appallingly dull. Sorry, but IвАЩd rather listen to Radio 1. And thatвАЩs the audio equivalent of CBeebies.

So many people are tuning out....I'm sure that wasn't the idea! пњљ
