About Spadework

Spadework is a Charity created in 1984 which provides care, support and meaningful opportunities to over 115 adults with learning and other disabilities.

Spadework Description

Spadework is a charity providing life skills training and work experience for adults with learning disabilities.
Our aim is to support trainees to develop their personal skills through social interaction with the community and experience of working in a commercial environment as they help to run our plant nursery, garden centre, farm shop and café. Trainees are also responsible for creating display garden, maintaining the site and growing fruit and vegetables to be sold in our farm shop, monthly Farmers’ Market or used in the café. Trainees also have the opportunity to participate in woodwork, craft and IT, gaining an understanding of how these areas support Spadework as a whole.
Spadework is open 7 days a week.
Charity No. 291198

A Lovely Rock found in the Spadework Garden centre in Offham. We have left it where it is so that someone else can hide it again. Thank you! It brightened up the staff and trainee’s day to find it.

Not long to go until our next Farmers’ Market!

Spadework catered for a function at the fabulous Fruit Rooms at Hugh Lowe Farms today, providing breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea. Our amazing Staff, Volunteers and Trainees all worked so hard to get this ready in time, even coming in a few hours early this morning to put the finishing touches on our tasty pastries, sausage rolls, quiches, sandwiches, biscuits and many other goodies. A massive thank you to everyone who helped make this happen! We hope everyone enjoyed eating it, as much as we enjoyed preparing it.

User

Would like to say a massive thank you to the fabulous staff in the tea room for the afternoon tea I shared with my mum yesterday! Delicious sandwiches, gorgeous scones, scrummy coffee and walnut cake, light and fluffy lemon drizzle and hot hot tea! It was all wonderful from the tablecloth to the china cups and saucers to the flowers on the table - just as an afternoon tea should be! I have and will recommend, and I will be back for another one day very soon!! Thanks you x

We visited Spadework last Monday and we loved it. Yes, there are [very small] things which could be improved, but overall the feel of the nursery was relaxed, homely and informal. The staff were all friendly and personable. The plants really are fantastic quality and very reasonably priced. We won’t be going anywhere else for our plant stocks now. Thank you Spadework, what a wonderful place you’ve created.

We have just had the most delightful team of trainees from Spadework come to our home. They picked all of the apples from our two trees in record time. They were so polite, friendly and hard working, we can't thank them enough. We hope the apples are good enough for your juice. A great big THANK YOU to John,Graham,Kirsty,Tom,Jonathan,James Brown and Simon. It was an absolute pleasure to have met you all. Also, just to make everyone aware, Spadework now do landscape and garden services, something to consider if you or someone you know needs a helping hand in the garden. We can't recommend them highly enough.

Spadework is the perfect example how Individuals with learning difficulties should be taught and treated like any other Person.

I worked there for a wile and being a Volunteer just a few times, because I am not in the UK most at the time, I can't help as much I wishing.

But Spadework has a very big place in my Heart.

User

My nephew has been a student at Spadework for many years and I visit each summer for the fair. Yesterday I visited with my brother and sister in law as I am staying with them in Tonbridge. I always like Apple juice and was able to buy cards and woodwork pieces as well. We also went into cafe which was nice. I look forward to next summer fair.
