I'm often asked this question - how do Pilates and Gyrotonic work together? Here's a synopsis of the main benefits of Pilates using large apparatus alongside Gyrotonic.
Feel free to get in touch with any queries.
• Overall fitness and tone including core stability... • Improves posture, balance and alignment • Greater flexibility and strength • Develops and increases co-ordination • Corrects muscle imbalances • Enhances performance and reduces injury for athletes and active sports people • Injury prevention and rehabilitation • Stress relief • Improves breathing and circulation
It also aids recovery from surgery or healing from medical treatments because the Pilates equipment is very supportive in the field of remedial/ physical rehabilitation and is an easily accessible, effective method of movement re-education.
It’s fantastic for pre and post natal fitness for strengthening the pelvic floor, relief of back pain and discomfort and gently getting you back on track after the birth.
Because the equipment is so adaptable it can be used by people of any age, including those with back pain, arthritis and joint stiffness, it can really help improve energy and vitality for citizens of more mature years.
Postural misalignments are addressed often completely removing discomfort and pain.
With time and regular practice the results are truly amazing.

Thank you to GR for my latest testimonial:-
29th January 2016
"I had been exercising with a personal trainer in a gym, three times a week, for six months to tackle a spinal inflexibility and stiffness but if anything things got worse with no results; hence my decision to begin 1:1 Pilates with my mentor and tutor, Christine at Spinalis Pilates and Gyrotonic studio.
... After just 15 sessions, under her supportive guidance, patience and exemplary expertise, my posture, spinal flexibility and neck movement have ameliorated, facilitating daily movement and contributing to my general wellbeing’ Thank you Christine". GR

The Importance of Stretching
What is Flexibility. Flexibility is frequently described as ROM meaning the range of movement around a particular joint or a combination of joints. In other words how far we can bend, reach and turn. As muscles gain strength through exercise and training they become shorter or more contracted resulting in restricted movement. With targeted and correct stretching the body attains the magic mix of strength with flexibility for optimum results.
I...mproved Range of Movement. By placing the body in particular positions for appropriate stretching, we are able to reduce muscle tension and increase muscle length. Our range of movement will be considerably increased. The more flexible and pliable muscles become, the further they stretch and move, before a strain or injury occurs.
Increased Muscle Power. By increasing our muscle length we are increasing its ability to contract giving more power to the action, dramatically enhancing physical and athletic ability, balance and control.
Reduced Fatigue. This is a major for everyone who wants to keep fit or who is a pro athlete. With fatigue physical and mental performance becomes greatly reduced.
For every muscle in the body there is an opposing muscle. They work as a team. If both are flexible each movement of the working muscle takes less effort.
Reduced Muscle Soreness After Exercise. Soreness that usually accompanies strenuous physical activity is a result of tiny tears within the muscle fibres, accumulated waste products, including lactic acid and bruising. Stretching helps to alleviate this soreness by lengthening the individual muscle fibers, increasing blood circulation and removing waste products.
Added Benefits. A quality regular stretching program will also help to improve posture, develop body awareness, enhance your circulation, further develop your co-ordination, increase energy, improve relaxation and reduce stress.
How to stretch. Stretching is as important as the rest of the training and should be slow, considered and controlled. Always avoid aggressive or bouncing movements which have high potential for injury. Correct alignment and posture is crucial to ensure the targeted muscle group receives the best possible stretch.
Pre exercise warm up stretches should always be a gentle lengthening of muscles and tendons, increasing their range of movement. After exercise, when the body is thoroughly warmed up, is the best time to intelligently make positive changes in the flexibility of muscles and tendons, with added benefits of reduce soreness and lactic acid pain the following day.
Remember 30 seconds is a general recommended time to hold a stretch position if possible, then relax for a few seconds and repeat. Keep breathing through the stretches. Finally, only stretch to the point of tension and not extreme pain.
