St Brendan'S Performing Arts Academy Description
As a part of our Performing Arts Academy, Drama and Theatre students will be able to access a range of exciting opportunities to develop their skills and experience beyond the curriculum. These include LAMDA qualifications, singing lessons, Film and TV Acting Workshops delivered by ITV Studios, the opportunity to be involved in the National Theatre Connections Project, extra-curricular sessions where they can learn about theatre design, and our Career Ready Scheme which matches successful applicants with a professional mentor who works in the industry. Some of these opportunities are available at a cost, but will work to supplement their experience and qualifications. Dennis Kelly's short, sharp shocker of a play - DNA - cleverly piles on the twists, as guilt and madness work their poison on group dynamics. It doesn't matter that the plotting is improbable, because Kelly's sharp, reflective writing gets inside the characters' heads. This is a jet-black comedy that lays bare the way that self-interest, peer pressure and an inability to really connect and empathise with others leads to a creeping corruption, as the kids become more and more determined to get away with murder. Reminiscing in the office today about our great awards ceremony - we closed the summer with The Academy Awards at Bristol Zoo - academy partners Characters Stage School and 3rd Stage Dance Company were present to give out awards, parents and family joined in with the celebrations and the DJ hadn't seen a dancefloor like it! What a night!
