St George'S, Shirley Description

St George's is a Church of England serving the people of Shirley. We are part of Croydon Addington Deanery (http://www. southwark. anglican.org/parishes /croydon-addington) in the Diocese of Southwark.

Sunday services are 8am BCP Eucharist (said), and 10am Sung Parish Eucharist followed by refreshments in the church hall.

At 10am there is wide provision for children and young people:
Toddler Church, age 0-3: There is a well-resourced children's area at the back of the church where adults with young babies /toddlers are welcome during the service if you feel they need a change of scene. This area has a speaker system so you are still able to be involved in the service. Changing facilities are available in the church hall (although many parents just change their baby in the corner! ).

Junior Church, age 3-10: Junior Church meet in the Church Hall during the 10am service. Their session may include stories, prayers, craft activities, music etc. The children then come into church during communion for a blessing. Before the end of the service Junior Church have the opportunity to share what they have been doing with the rest of the congregation. (The 2nd Sunday of the month is an all-age Eucharist and all children stay in the service, often leading many parts of it. )

Youth Church, age 11-16: 1st and 3rd Sundays, Youth Church start in the church at 10am then go to the Choir Vestry during the first hymn. Here they have their own session with teaching, discussion, reflection, prayer etc. They return to their families (or friends! ) in time for communion. On the 2nd and 5th Sundays they stay in church with their families, and on the 4th Sunday they take active roles in running the service.

It's that time of the month again - Messy Church is back on Thursday! This is a particularly special session as it's also our opportunity to say goodbye to Ruth as she is due to be ordained at the end of June and will therefore be moving to a new parish. Don't miss one last meal ......!

The flowers at the main altar this weekend have been arranged to remember those members of our church and congregation still living but no longer able to worship with us.

A very thought provoking Good Friday - an investigation to gain greater understanding by the children ..... and a Walk of Witness by some of the adults - followed by a joining together of both groups to share experiences.

No 'Messy Church' this month, instead a very special children's activity morning on Good Friday starting at 9.45am, followed by Hot Cross Buns and a chance for the children to show and share their activities with the the adults. There are also special services at 2.00pm on Good Friday, and Sunrise and 10.00am on Easter Day.
