Sunday 9th February 2020 The Third Sunday before Lent 9.15am Morning Prayer 10am High Mass 6pm Choral Evensong
... Dear friend
In our reading of Matthew's gospel on Sundays, we've reached the Sermon on the Mount. This very powerful teaching of Jesus is often used as a beacon of wisdom for both Christians and non-Christians and many Christian feel they are hearing the authentic voice of Jesus.
This Sunday, we see the first part of this teaching where Jesus uses those now well known metaphors to speak to his disciples describing them as the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world”. These descriptions still apply to us today and remind us that our faith is not just about ourselves but about our participation in God’s work in the world.
See you soon Rob Barber, Lay Reader

The Presentation of Christ ‪9.15am Morning Prayer‬ 10am High Mass‬ ‪6pm Choral Evensong & Benediction‬
Dear friends
... In Advent we looked forward to the coming of the kingdom of God, from Christmas Day to the Epiphany we marvelled at God becoming human, and in the Epiphany season we have been looking at the beginnings of Christ's ministry, the gradual revealing of who he is. ‪This Sunday‬ we end the part of the Christian year centred on Christmas, as we celebrate the Presentation of Christ at the Temple (Candlemas), forty days after his birth.
As old Simeon and Anna greet the young Jesus and recognize him as God's Messiah, we are reminded that God is faithful. As Simeon sings that Jesus is 'a light to lighten the nations', we remember that Christ shines as a light in the darkness. And as Simeon tells Jesus's parents that their son 'is destined for the falling and rising of many' we look forward to Lent and Easter, when Jesus's ministry is brought to its fulfilment.
We are delighted to welcome as our guest preacher the Revd Helen Harknett, Assistant Curate at St John the Divine, Kennington, whom you might have seen in the recent 'Here Am I' photographic exhibition. Do come and hear what she has to say.
See you soon, Fr Daniel
