we look forward to seeing you all on Sunday - bring your friends, family and Neighbours to share with us
Today we ask for the prayers of St Charles Lwanga (pictured) and all those who died in Uganda for the Christian Faith in the 1880s. All younger than 30 yrs old, they refused to go along with the life style of the court of the king. They found eternal life in Baptism just days before they were burned for following Jesus. In the words of today's Collect: Grant Lord that, watered by the blood shed by St Charles Lwanga and his companions, we may be fertile and yield you an abundant harvest. 11.30am Mass.
Happy Feast of the Ascension! It’s a cause for celebration that the Risen Lord returns to His Father! Alleluia! Masses on Thursday at St Mary’s at 7.30am, 9.30am and 7.30pm and at Good Shepherd at 12.15pm.
At Mass this morning we heard St Paul's great speech to the Athenians (Acts 17) and Jesus' promise that the Spirit would lead us to all truth. I suggested that people might like to read this teaching document from Vatican II on the relationship between the Church and other religions. http://www.vatican.va/…/vat-ii_decl_196 51028_nostra-aetate_…
Happy Feast of St Augustine! Fr Morris has said farewell to the pilgrims going off to Walsingham for the National Pilgrimage and is preparing to say the 11.30am Mass here. St Augustine is depicted in our Reredos (see photograph), carrying the Cross which he would carry around with him when he preached the Gospel in this country from 597 onwards. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury.
These trumpet lilies at the front of church are going well this year.
Amazing to be with twenty others from St Mary's supporting St Philip's this evening as Bp Jonathan went to bless the new mission there. Well done, Fr Clark, and all involved!
Looking forward to praying the rosary Sundays in May at 9.45am. “Pray for us sinners now.”
St Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) wanted to stay in her monastery contemplating the wonders of God's love but her love of God compelled her to be involved in the affairs of the world and the politics of the church. A companion recorded one of her prayers, "How long, O Eternal Trinity, fire and abyss of love, will your face be hidden from my eyes? Melt at once the cloud of my body." May St Catherine pray for us on this her feast day.
May the life of Jesus be our life as we enter more deeply into His death. Come and worship!
Some great pictures from today’s Chrism Mass. It was wonderful to be there as Fr Morris, Fr Beer and all Bp Jonathan’s priests renewed their priestly commitment. The Bishop also blessed the oils we’ll use for the next twelve months in baptisms, confirmations and to anoint the sick. https://mikestill63.smugmug.com/…/Fulha m-Chrism-Mass-2019-…/
The Spurs crowd have gone. Tomorrow it’s our turn as we process at the start of our Masses for Palm Sunday!
Lunch time at the Easter Activity Day!
Leftover primroses from Mothering Sunday but planted now near the House of the Lord. Thanks, Luke, for planting them.
Lovely to see a rainbow over the Vicarage Garden this evening. A reminder of God’s promises not to destroy the earth by water (Genesis 9).
Don’t forget the clocks change when you come along to Mass on Sunday!
