Last week we welcomed a new painting to the Cathedral by Hughie O'Donoghue that celebrates the life of St Martin of Tours.
Listen to Canon Mark Oakley and Hughie discuss this new painting and how we can understand the story of St Martin in our contemporary world.

'St Martin divides his cloak'
A new painting by artist Hughie O'Donoghue and commissioned by the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor has come to St Paul's.
The traditional story of the soldier St Martin tells of his cutting his cloak in two for a poor man. O’Donoghue’s commission depicts St Martin dividing an imperial scarlet cloak for a man who might be seen at any time in one of our streets today. St Martin sees the dignity of the man as well as his urgent need. His Christ...ian faith has taught him that what we do to the most vulnerable in our world we do to Christ.
The painting, which celebrates the life of St Martin, can be seen in the Cathedral crypt in the Chapel of the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor.

Wonderful visit yesterday! The staff was exceptionally friendly, the audio guide is detailed, but doesn’t drag and the views of London from the very top of the dome are worth the somewhat intimidating climb up all those steps. Absolute must-see on any trip to London no matter your religious preference!

User

What a beautiful architecture it is..worth time and money to spend. And of course an amazing view at the golden gallery.

User

We have just had a fabulous guided tour by the very knowledgeable Diana. A wonderful 1hr 45 mins taking us to areas we would not have been able to see. We also braved the 500 steps to visit the whispering gallery/the stone gallery and the golden gallery. Amazing experience, highly recommended. We will be back.

User

Very good trip out well worth a visit, although you need to be pretty fit to climb the steps all the way up but worth the view at the top

User

This Cathedral is very outstanding. But if there are signs "No photo allowed" and some tourists has no respect.

Otherwise on the top should be a security staff, because the tourists ignored the warning signs.

Very good sightseeing about the oldest Cathedral. Rated with 5 Stars. Friendly staff.

There are no words to describe how beautiful and amazing this is. If you like old, historic cathedrals this is the cream of the crop. The architecture is breathtaking. You cannot take pictures but you won't need to as the images will be burned in your memory forever. This is a definite bucket list place. If you have it in you, climb to the top of the cathedral. Very narrow and steep but the views have no equal.

User

The moment you steep through the door the art the atmosphere feels alive and full of energy you get the overwhelming sense of being drawn in never seen anything so beautiful in my life will definitely come back again

User

The history, the splendour, the Dome, Contemporary religious artwork, The views , the views, the views. Gymwork done for the day after the highest point is reached and the visitor treks back down to the ground.

User

The Church is in central London serving all the visitors and the Residents of London. The way they conduct service is fantastic In loved to be attending the church' Yesterday's service was a Blessed service

User

I attended a performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion. The ushers were excellent. Polite and efficient. The performance was exquisite. The power of Bach's music was expressed with feeling by Orchestra and Singers alike. The performance of a Passion is an annual event, and I would highly recommend it as a way to experience the building. It was built for such things.

User

I absolutely loved visiting St. Paul's when I was in London, what an amazing place, loved seeing the dome and everything in the place, hope to go back one day

User

Brilliant! Make time for this, excellent self guided tour, so much history and beauty, an extremely reverent place!

User

An amazing cathedral with wonderful architecture by Sir Christopher Wren. The entrance fee can seem expensive at £18, but if you buy on-line it is reduced to £16 and allows free entrance for one whole year if you Gift Aid. You can attend a free introductory talk about the Cathedral, or a 90-minute guided tour, which we did. Our tour guide was Ernest and what a lovely knowledgeable man he was. Not only lots of history about the cathedral but his personal anecdotes and little-known facts too. After the tour - which over-ran by 20 minutes as so much to tell - we climbed to the Whispering Gallery and then up to the Golden Gallery (528 steps) but what amazing views - narrow but worth it, fabulous! Cafe is in the crypt - only £5 for delicious homemade soup - lovely gift shop with lots of nice ideas for gifts. Highly recommend, please go, a must-see!

User

What a great visit inside i would have loved to take photos but your not allowed plenty of signs about , great outside roof top views amazing if you don't mind hundreds of steps

User

This wasn’t my first visit to St. Paul’s. However it was a very busy day and I didn’t appreciate being hurried along as we made our way to the golden gallery. We hardly had time to take in the breathtaking view! Beautiful interior though.

User

Spectacular! Climbing the stairway to heaven is an experience well worth getting your walking shoes on for. It’s something I can recommend.

User

However staff feel it's okay to tell at people minding their own business replying to friends message. Just because a person is on their phone doesn't mean they are taking photos so thank you for turning my experience into one I want to forget because of the embarrassing way the young man with bad blonde tips treated me while I was waiting for my husband who had gone for the walk outside.

User

First time in my life that I have to pay to get access to a church!!! It’s supposed to be a religious place where the people came to connect with God! The only connection that I see is with a bank account! If they asked me to donate at the entrance I will be more than welcome to do it! This its an admission ticket! What a shame!!!!

User

Very poor experience as extremely expensive. My wife has joint problems and needed to use the lift to the Wispering Gallery, but was refused because she is not wheelchair bound. Even though the lift was not busy. Cost of entry and prices in the ccafe are a rip off. Stay outside, it's really not worth it
