Thank you all who applied to become ski buddies for the 2019 ski week. Those who have been invited to meet us for final selection, we really look forward to meeting you. Those who unfortunately haven't been asked, please do apply again next year. We base our primary selection on getting an equal mix between age groups and gender. And some years we are oversubscribed in certain age groups. Alternatively you could all come and ski with us in our Ski Challenge, 4 days in Jan/Feb 2019. It's a simple entry process, you pay - you play! You can fundraise your 2k GBP entry fee, it all goes to support the charity in their aims. More information can be found on https://www.supportingwoundedveterans.com /…/the-ski-challe…/
Apply to join us for our next Ski Week in 2019. If you have been medically discharged and feel you are ready to take on the challenge of employment/training/setting up your own business but need some help/advice/mentoring.... apply here https://www.supportingwoundedveterans.com /get…/as-a-veteran/

A poem written by Karl Tearney which he wrote on the Ocean Challenge 2018
Wounded journey
Warming sunshine blanketing ... As diamonds dance beneath the sky Shades of blue now everywhere A million creases ripple by
Waves of sound both rise and fall Their frequency untamed Whitened sheets climb to the sky Grasping air as unashamed
Meandering from left and right With a rolling rising pace The majesty of wind and tide The round the island race

The inaugural Ocean Challenge was a huge success. After 5 days of training the 4 crews competed in the Round the Island Race 2018 with all crews completing the race despite the lack of wind and one boat even coming second in the Sunsail Matched First 40 class. for all those involved in the week feel free to tag yourself in the pictures and share the album for all your friends and family.
Race day! Yesterday was an absolutely amazing day albeit a hot day! We were up early for our 0650 start. We had light winds for most of the race, which resulted in us having a few frustrating moments of not going anywhere. As soon as we got past Rhye on the final stretch all those frustrations disappeared when the wind picked up and we had a fast beat towards the finish line with SWV Sunsail coming first out of our 4 boats but also coming second in the Sunsail class. We then had a gala dinner at the Boathouse in Cowes with fantastic food and an auction which raised a significant amount of money for the charity.
RACE TRACKING: Tomorrow is the big day! The SWV boats start the round the island race at 0650, that might be a bit early for most but I am sure that when you wake up you will be keen to see how the veterans are getting on and which boat is in the lead. Follow these instructions to get set up on the race tracking website.
1. Click on the link http://ngtrack2.ngresults.co.uk/webviewer / 2. Search, Select and Save the following boats in the boat-view menu (picture 2) - Sunsail 40...19 - Challenger 1 - Sunsail 4018 - Sunsail - Sunsail 4014 - Challenger 2 - Sunsail 4025 - Coinstreet 3. Enjoy the race! comment with support for the boats!

Day 5 Ocean Challenge- Last night we held a welcome BBQ for the guests and sponsors who are joining the crews for the race tomorrow. After the BBQ we had a talk from Hannah Stodel about her sailing career and her journey to being the first disabled person to compete in the @Vendee Globe. Then this morning we headed out from Port Solent with our guests and sponsors on board for a day of race training. Then we had the experience of mooring up in the mayhem which is Cowes Yacht Haven. As I type we are being hosted in the Max Aiken Museum in Cowes for dinner.
Day 3 Ocean Challenge. We motored from the Royal Southern Yacht Club down the Hamble River into the Solent were we had a series of small practice races so the veterans get an idea of how starts work in yacht racing. We were also joined by photographer Ian Roman who was onboard and following in the support boats to get some action shots of the crews. We then headed up the Beaulieu river towards the very tranquil Bucklers Hard for a restful evening. Photo credits to Ian Roman
Ocean Challenge day 4. Today was a short sharp day of racing! We set off a bit later from Buckler's Hard because of the tide this morning. We then cruised down the Beaulieu river and once in the Solent started a downwind race to Portsmouth so we could practise hoisting and gybing the spinnaker.
Day 2 Ocean Challenge 2018 We began at Gunwarf Quay and headed out into the solent for another day training. Anchoring off for lunch just outside of Southampton Water which ended with some swimming between the boats. Then we headed to the Royal Southern Yacht club to moor up for the night and cook some dinner.
Day one of the Sailing challenge was a huge success! Beginning in Port Solent the Veterans had a briefing on the boat and the safety equipment, then headed out into the Solent to learn the basics. After a few hours sailing under the hot sun the boats moored up in Gunwarf Quay. After a refresh all the crews headed to INEOS Team UK for a tour of the base and a look into how their next Americas Cup Boat is designed and built. Thank you INEOS Team UK for having us, we really enjoyed coming! The photos will continue to come out throughout the week, so keep an eye out on this page and our Instagram https://www.instagram.com/supportingwound edveterans/?hl=en
